The world’s biggest cruise ship – a whopping five times bigger than the Titanic – will take passengers on board from January next year. In 2024, the juggernaut Icon of the Seas by Royal Caribbean will head out into the water.

The enormous shop is a huge 365 metres long (1,200 ft) and will weigh 250,800 tonnes – five times more than the 46,329 tonne Titanic. Lengthways, the ship is longer than the height of the Eiffel Tower.

Plus, the ship will be like a small town in items with 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew. In contrast, the Titanic only held 2,240 passengers and crew combined.

Making use of all that space, the ship will have 20 decks and eight neighbourhoods which are each set up for different types of visitors. Some are catered to young families while others are adult-only spots with piano bars and a cool vibe.

To fill the main pool – Royal Bay – which also has waterslides, ITV states that over 40,000 gallons of water will be used. But, the luxury and excess doesn’t end there.

There’s a Sky Walk where harnessed guests can walk before the floor suddenly disappears leaving you dancing above the ocean. Scary and incredible all at the same time!

In terms of wow-factor there are shows beneath a waterfall in the Aqua-Dome where you can dine as you watch. Absolute Zero lets you watch ice-skating performances in the middle of the Caribbean.

According to CNN, ticket sales for the Icon are already record-breaking. So it seems plenty of people want to try out the gargantuan ship.

The ship is currently undergoing sea trials to ensure it is safe. "During her first set of sea trials, Icon of the Seas traveled hundreds of miles, during which the main engines, hull, brake systems, steering, noise, and vibration levels were all tested,” the statement said.

"Everything was done on time as outlined in the schedule, despite her departure being delayed due to wind conditions."

Royal Caribbean International president and chief executive Michael Bayley said: "We are positioning it as the ultimate family vacation and when you step back and look at all the energy and time that has gone into creating this ship it is mind-blowing.

"During her first set of sea trials, Icon of the Seas travelled hundreds of miles, during which the main engines, hull, brake systems, steering, noise, and vibration levels were all tested,” the statement said. "Everything was done on time as outlined in the schedule, despite her departure being delayed due to wind conditions."
