Fabinho has been left out of Liverpool's pre-season camp as a £40million move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad nears.

The Reds have travelled to Germany ahead of a couple of pre-season friendlies against Bundesliga 2 sides Karlsruher and Furth, but Fabinho has been left at home. The Brazilian midfielder did not refuse to travel, though it's understood he's keen to make the move to Al-Ittihad after agreeing personal terms with the club.

Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson, who has verbally agreed to a £700,000-a-week contract with Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq side, has flown with the squad to Germany, despite ongoing discussions about his future.

Liverpool have already signed two midfielders this summer in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, but they'll be forced to splash out again if they lose either Henderson or Fabinho, or indeed both players.

Jurgen Klopp's side have been linked with a number of defensive midfielders over the past 12 months and efforts to sign one are now expected to ramp up.

They're likely to be priced out of a move for Brighton's Moises Caicedo, who is currently in talks with Chelsea over a potential £80m switch, though the likes of Southampton's Romeo Lavia, Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat and Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips are all realistic targets.

Fabinho has been a mainstay in Liverpool's team since joining from Monaco in 2018. He's racked up 219 appearances and has won six major honours including the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020.

Should he join Al-Ittihad the 29-year-old will link up with former Real Madrid team-mate Karim Benzema as well as ex-Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante, both of whom joined the club this summer.
