Paul Craig piled on the pounds between his UFC London weigh-in and his fight against Andre Muniz – and felt like a different animal.

The Scot, nicknamed Bearjew, fired his way into the middleweight rankings on his divisional debut with a brutal second-round TKO that ended a run of consecutive defeats which both came at light-heavyweight.

The 35-year-old decided to drop down a division after losses to Volkan Oezdemir and Johnny Walker at 205lbs after a successful test cut to 185lbs – but actually went into the fight weighing more than he had done previously.

Craig told Ariel Helwani's MMA Hour: "I was really, really skinny. My cheekbones, you could have grated cheese on those things, but then a few hours later, it’s amazing what the body can do.

"Just after a couple of litres of water, following scientific basis through the support of the P.I… we were a different animal come Saturday night, and we bounced back further than we did as a light heavyweight.

"Once we made the weight, I think we were 84.5 kg [186 pounds] on Friday morning, at the time of the fight we were 97 kg [213 pounds]. That’s heavier than what I was fighting Johnny Walker.

"I think I was 95kg [209 pounds] as a bounce back then. So you can see the benefits of doing it."

“We will do both. It’s where the fights are. If the fights are at light heavyweight, then we’ll take it.

“We have a victory over Jamahal Hill. We have the only victory over (Magomed) Ankalaev. We have beaten (Nikita) Krylov, right, with a few bumps on the road in the light heavyweight division. But we’ll take both divisions."

Elsewhere on the card, Tom Aspinall's stoppage of Marcin Tybura saw him climb a spot to #4 in the heavyweight rankings.
