Raiders HC makes interesting comments on Bryce Young’s height

Whether Bryce Young measures 5-foot-11 or 6-foot during the combine, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels clarified that doesn’t matter, and the Alabama QB interests Las Vegas.

“Height is not a prerequisite for the QB position,” McDaniels said in a Tuesday news conference. “It’s about their ability to see through the rush into the defense and read the coverage properly. I’m not sure anybody’s done it better than Bryce in college football.”

The Raiders must find their next starting QB. They recently released Derek Carr. Chase Garbers is the only QB under contract and has no starting experience.

Could Young be Las Vegas’ next QB?

The 2021 Heisman winner is a fascinating prospect with an electric skill set. He threw 80 touchdowns and posted a 165.0 passer rating in three seasons against SEC defenses.

However, Young stands at six feet and weighs 194 pounds, the smallest of the four QBs with a first-round grade, per ESPN’s Jordan Reid.

His size scares ESPN draft guru Todd McShay.

“If I were an NFL GM, I would be scared to death of drafting Young,” he said recently.

Yet McShay contradicted himself, saying the QB is “special.” The compliment likely minimizes Las Vegas’ potential fears.

If the Raiders want Young, they must move up. Although the Raiders have the No. 7 overall pick, Tankathon projects Young will be the No. 2 pick.

Las Vegas should consider a deal with Chicago. It has the No. 1 pick and is considering trading it, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

If Las Vegas makes the trade, Young could be its next QB.
