Adam Driver’s ‘65’ Now Streaming On Netflix

Actor Adam Driver is best known for his role as Kylo Ren and the redeemed Ben Solo in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy.

However, he has gone on to star in films like “Annette,” “The Last Duel,” “House of Gucci,” and “White Noise.” He will also appear in the “Ferrari” biopic as the titular Enzo Ferrari and has a big role in Francis Ford Coppola’s epic “Megalopolis.” In between those projects, the 39-year-old actor starred in “65.”

Adam Driver’s ’65’ Became Available To Stream On Netflix On July 8

On July 8, the dinosaur thriller “65” became available to stream on Netflix. The official synopsis reads:

“After a catastrophic crash on an unknown planet, pilot Mills quickly discovers he’s actually stranded on Earth — 65 million years ago. Now, with only one chance at a rescue, Mills and the only other survivor, Koa, must make their way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures.”

Created by “A Quiet Place” writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, Driver plays Commander Mills, who crashes on prehistoric Earth alongside a fellow survivor, Koa, who is played by Ariana Greenblatt.

What Do The Critics Have To Say?

Unfortunately, according to critics, this is no “Jurassic Park.” On Rotten Tomatoes, “65” only has a 35% score with critics. It fared better with audiences, getting a score of 65%. Movie Nation’s Roger Moore gave the film a 1.5 out of 4, writing, “ ‘After Earth’ with little that would pass for humor and no swagger. The limited thrills and Driver’s bland by-the-book approach make this play like the extremely-padded-with-filler ‘Twilight Zone’ episode it was begging to be.”

Rex Reed of the Observer gave it a 1 out of 4, writing, “65 is a gruesome thing to watch, even for dinosaur lovers—and not much fun, either.” Manual Betancourt of the AV Club wrote, “The revelation that accompanies the title card for Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ 65 all but demands a hearty guffaw, except this is a film that knows little of humor.”

Still, there were some fans who enjoyed the movie. Jack Bottomley of Starburst wrote, “Adam Driver and his young co-star Ariana Greenblatt are fantastic, in this tight, to the point, survivalist, story, with a script trimmed of fat, excellent special effects and thunderous bang for buck show opposite some quieter moments of the human heart.”

John Nugent of Empire Magazine called it “A short, sharp, largely original major studio movie, unbound to any franchise or intellectual property — at a time when such a concept is being threatened with extinction. Also, it has a T-Rex in it. Sometimes, that’s enough. Nugent gave the film 3 out of 5 stars. James Berardinelli of ReelViews gave one of the more honest reviews, writing, “By keeping its goals limited, it’s able to deliver what it promises, and that stands for something. I’ll admit I was more entertained by this high-concept sci-fi adventure than half the films I have seen thus far in 2023.”

Audiences Have Mixed Feelings Over The Adam Driver-Led Feature

The audience reaction to the film was just as mixed as the critic reviews. Chad D. wrote, “I sat down and watched this movie and wasn’t really sure about it. I felt like it was good as it was simple and had enough action to keep you involved in the movie. Decent movie and enjoyed it.”

“Fun popcorn movie with a predictable ending. I did enjoy Driver’s performance. Not keen on his keen, though. Cool effects with the dinos,” wrote Brent N. “I would definitely see it again as home stream or rental.”

A user named Kyle M. wrote, “It’s fine. It is made by the same creators of A Quite Place, but they definitely weren’t able to capture what made that movie good. Its charters are pretty good and I liked Adam Driver, but the plot just felt slow and somewhat boring.”

Another user named Sahooon C. admitted, “I didn’t hate this film. It’s not a must-watch and I had much higher hopes for it but if you like sci-fi and Adam Driver you’ll probably like this.”
