Michael Olise has signed a new four-year deal at Crystal Palace to put an end to Chelsea's £35m pursuit.

The announcement was made by Palace chairman and co-owner Steve Parish, who uploaded a photo of himself alongside Olise to Instagram on Thursday afternoon.

Parish wrote: "I’m absolutely delighted to announce @m.olise has decided to commit his future to Crystal Palace football club and this afternoon signed a new four year deal with the club. @m.olise is an [eagle emoji]," along with a shushing face emoji.

The news will come as a disappointment to Chelsea who were hoping to tie up a deal for the young forward after activating his £35m release clause earlier this week.

Chelsea's pursuit of Olise, who spent seven years in their academy, irked Palace bosses, who considered reporting the club to the Premier League amid tapping up concerns. The Blues, however, maintain that there was nothing untoward about their approach and that they hadn't broken any rules.

Following the announcement of his contract extension, elated Palace fans rushed to the comments section of Parish's post, with some labelling it "the best deal of the summer".

"This is the biggest plot twist of 2023. Thank you Steve," one wrote, while another said: "Checked the username 16 times to check it wasn't a fake account. What an incredible piece of news."

"Unbelievable news. Best deal of the summer for us this," added a third.

Olise has been a near ever-present in Palace's side since joining from Reading two years ago, making 71 appearances and scoring six goals. As a youngster, he spent time in Arsenal's, Chelsea's and Manchester City's academy.
