Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's age-defying antics were exposed after a team-mate accidentally rubbed off part of his hairline.

The 34-year-old Marseille striker netted twice in the club's Champions League qualifying clash with Panathinaikos on Tuesday, but was left red-faced when he got a congratulatory rub on the forehead after one of his goals.

A chunk of his hairline appeared to completely vanish during the celebration, prompting accusations that he'd touched up his do by spray-painting the receding sections.

"Has Aubameyang been painting his hair to hide his baldness? Hahah amazing," one fan tweeted. Another said: "Lol Aubameyang needs a hair transplant ASAP."

A third added: "No waaay haha Auba is balding. What has he put on his head? Shoe polish?"

A fourth joked he was actually notable forehead-enthusiast Gervinho in disguise, commenting: "This is like an episode of Scooby Doo and Gervinho would’ve gotten away with it, if it weren’t for those pesky kids."

To make matters worse for Aubameyang, his brace (and subsequent surprise hair removal) was all for nothing as Marseille were knocked out of the tournament after losing to their Greek opponents on penalties.

The Gabon international, who joined the club from Chelsea last month, started his first league match for Marseille on Friday, but failed to score as the south coast club drew 2-2 with Metz.

Aubameyang has had something of a topsy-turvy last 18 months, having forced his way out of Arsenal in order to join Barcelona in January 2022, only to leave the La Liga club a few months later.

He scored 13 goals in 23 matches for Barcelona, but moved to Chelsea to play under former manager Thomas Tuchel after being relegated to second-choice striker following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.

His spell at Stamford Bridge was nothing short of a disaster however. Tuchel was sacked within weeks and he was then excluded from Chelsea's Champions League squad by his successor Graham Potter. He finished the season with just three goals in all competitions before leaving the club on a free transfer.
