Households are receiving one-off cost of living payments worth £200 this summer.

Brits have been struggling to get by as a result of rising inflation and the cost of living crisis.

Now those on a low-income can get free financial help from their local council.

We previously reported how thousands of Brits could land direct payments of £400 in their bank accounts.

The help comes through the Household Support Fund which is worth £824million.

It is provided by the government which distributes money among councils in England.

    There's no idea how many households would receive the £200 payments in Birmingham, but it could be thousands.

    Each council is distributing its share of the Household Support Fund differently.

    Some are handing out vouchers, while others are making bank transfers to eligible residents.

    The amount you are entitled to will vary depending on the area you live in too.

    You can use the government's local council checker tool to find out more information.

    A separate £900 cost of living payment for those on certain benefits is also being paid out over the course of the year.

    The payment is available for those who receive any of the following:

    • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
    • Income Support
    • Pension Credit
    • Tax Credits (Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit)
    • Universal Credit

    The first payment, worth £301, was paid between April and May.

    Meanwhile the second instalment, worth £300, will be paid in autumn.
