A pint of milk and a can of Coca-Cola have more than doubled in price in last 15 years

The cost of a pint of milk or a can of Coca-Cola has more than doubled in the last 15 years, figures show – while a portion of fish and chips has almost quadrupled in price.

New findings show what you could have bought back in 2008 for £15 – with a pint of beer, and a lottery ticket, also among some of the products that have soared in price.

When it comes to petrol, £15 today would stretch to just about three-quarters of what it could have got you 15 years ago – 10.8 litres, compared to 14 litres.

And while £15 would have got you six boxes of a dozen eggs a decade and a half ago, today you would lose out on 17 of those eggs – managing to buy just over four-and-a-half dozen eggs.

The figures were revealed by SMARTY mobile, which has introduced their new SIM plans, including 150GB of data for £15.

Elin McLean, SMARTY’s general manager, said: “We live in an era of shrinkflation and rising costs, and £15 doesn’t go nearly as far as it used to. Everything from the cost of milk through to lotto tickets has increased in price compared to 15 years ago.

“We are constantly reviewing our plans to give more to our customers – increasing the value of our offering, and not the price.”
