Liverpool transfer state of play – Ryan Gravenberch move and Mo Salah agent silence

The clock is ticking down on the transfer window and Liverpool remain in the market.

The Reds are not guaranteed to make any signings before the window slams shut. But they’re not ruling out any business before Friday night’s deadline.

They’ve had a strong start to the season after a draw at Chelsea and wins against Bournemouth and Newcastle. But Jurgen Klopp’s squad still seems to be short in a few areas which could cost them a title run if they don’t make any more signings this window.

They’ve signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo in a midfield revamp after the exits of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

But who else could come or go in the coming days?

Liverpool, having failed with a £110m move for Moises Caicedo, do seemingly have the money for the right player. But the problem is Bayern will know that and won’t want to strike a deal they’re not comfortable with.

Gravenberch is only one of a few names on a list but Liverpool won’t move for the sake of it with Klopp content having got Wataru Endo in as a defensive midfielder while Mac Allister and Szoboszlai will be first choice.

Douglas Luiz and Sofyan Amrabat have also been linked with Anfield but neither are currently expected to move there.

There has been speculation that they will sign a defender in this window and their use of Jarell Quansah, 20, against Newcastle may have been a message from Klopp about their lack of depth in the position.

However, there are not many centre-backs out there that fit the bill to play Klopp’s style of football so a deal here looks unlikely at this stage.

    ‌WHO COULD LEAVE

The big worry around the red half of Merseyside is what if a Saudi Pro League club comes calling with a huge offer for Mo Salah.

There is definite interest from Al Ittihad but Liverpool’s stance is that the player is not for sale this summer. Salah’s agent ruled out a move to the Middle East earlier in August but has remained silent since the news of fresh interest from Saudi emerged.

It would be highly unlikely that the Reds change their stance at this stage of the window but Saudi clubs have until mid September to sign players.

Joe Gomez is another player who has been linked with a move away from Anfield but with defensive options limited, it’s not expected that the England defender leaves.

Thiago Alcantara is not expected to feature much given the impressive starts by Mac Allister and Szoboszlai in midfield but the Spain midfielder will see out the final year of his contract at Anfield having accepted a lesser role for Klopp’s side.

Caoimhin Kelleher was interested in going this summer to get regular first-team starts and to boost his chances of starting regularly for Ireland, but Klopp doesn’t want the keeper to leave and he will remain back-up to Alisson.

Nat Phillips is expected to get some late interest while Tyler Morton could leave on loan again.
