New Exorcist Movie Changes Dates To Get Out Of Taylor Swift's Way
Blumhouse’s upcoming horror movie The Exorcist: Believer has changed its release date due to Taylor Swift. Studio head Jason Blum said on social media that Believer is moving up a week, from October 13 to October 6, because Swift just announced that her Eras Tour concert movie is coming out on October 13. It’s projected to be a huge draw in theaters, so much so that Blumhouse wants to move its new film out of the way.
“Look what you made me do,” Blum said about the release date change, referencing the Swift song. He ended his message with the hashtag #TaylorWins.

This might not have always been the plan. After Swift announced her Eras Tour concert movie on August 31, Blum posted on X/Twitter #Exorswift,” referencing how both films could landed on the same day. It seems that thinking has changed, with Believer now moving up a week to stay clear of Swift.

The Eras Tour concert movie is coming to theaters on October 13, and it sold an astonishing $26 million in ticket pre-sales after its first 24 hours, according to Deadline. This is a new AMC record for first-day sales, surpassing AMC’s previous record-holder, which was Spider-Man: No Way Home ($16.9 million). The Eras Tour movie will be available in other theaters, too, so the $26 million in pre-sales represents just one piece of the pie.
Believer is directed by David Gordon Green, who previously directed the recent Halloween movies. The movie stars Leslie Odom Jr., Lidya Jewett, and Olivia Marcum. The movie also brings back Oscar-winner Ellen Burstyn, who returns to the series for the first time since the 1973 original The Exorcist.
As for the Eras Tour concert movie, it’s a movie version of her ongoing Eras Tour concert series. The movie version’s runtime is 2 hours and 45 minutes, which is shorter than the actual concert.
Swift recently wrapped up the first leg of the US tour and is headed to South America in November, then Japan and Australia in February 2024, before going through Europe, and then returning to North America in October 2024 for more dates in the US and Canada.

The Eras Tour is expected to become the highest-grossing tour of all time, with billions in revenue. Swift is giving some of it back, as she paid each of her roughly 50 US truck drivers a $100,000 bonus.
