Knicks have part of ‘their attention’ on possible move to land Giannis Antetokounmpo

The New York Knicks are on the brink of an NBA potential playoff breakthrough and locked in a tight series with the Miami Heat. While the Heat remain the primary focus for the Knicks on the court, the attention of the front office in New York isn’t quite 100 percent on the playoff series, it seems.

As ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported, the Knicks have “97 percent of their attention” on the Heat, but that other three percent? Well, that’s landing squarely on the Milwaukee Bucks and star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Knicks are monitoring this situation closely and making sure they stay informed about any developments concerning Giannis’s availability.

This comes shortly after the Bucks opted to part ways with head coach Mike Budenholzer just days after their disappointing first-round playoff series loss to the Heat.

Following that series, Antetokounmpo, who’s never one to openly criticize players or coaches in the media, offered some insight on the series loss, including a comment some perceived to be pointed at Budenholzer.

As ESPN’s Jamal Collier detailed, Antetokounmpo was honest about wanting to guard Heat star Jimmy Butler in that series and cited the Bucks’ decision not to make adjustments.

“I don’t know, double-team him more, try to make him pass the ball,” Antetokounmpo said. “Maybe switch the matchup for a little bit, give Jrue [Holiday] a break. I don’t think as a team we made the right [adjustment] or we didn’t make as many adjustments as we could have against him.”

Regardless of the situation, interest from any team in acquiring a player like Antetokounmpo, who has won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award twice, was named NBA Finals MVP in 2021 and has made seven NBA All-Star games, will always be high. But it’s also extremely unlikely that the Bucks even entertain offers for him barring the 28-year-old star opening requesting a trade out of Milwaukee, so Knicks fans shouldn’t get their hopes up too much just yet.
