Star Wars Series ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ May Be Coming To A Theater Near You!

Fans of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” may soon be able to watch their favorite Star Wars Disney+ series in theaters.

According to ComicBook.com, the entire six-episode limited series might be getting a “limited theatrical engagement” in a partnership with Cineplex on the day that the final premieres on Disney+. One theater in Canada may also be holding a Q&A session with those involved in the series.

According to the Cineplex website, the description reads:

“’Obi-Wan Kenobi’ begins 10 years after the dramatic events of ‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith’ where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. This event will feature a live Q&A.”

The cast is listed as Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. However, it is not stated which, if any of them, will make an appearance at the question and answer session.

The event is scheduled to take place next Wednesday, June 22, with a length of five hours and twenty minutes.

Fans can purchase tickets and learn more about the event on the Cineplex website.

The Disney+ Series Might Not Be What All Fans Expected

Disney+

Although fans had been clamoring for another chance to see Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprise their roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, the series has been plagued by poor reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a critic rating of 84% and an audience score of only 60%.

Most of the audience reviews are only one-star, with many blasting the series as “one to avoid.”

“This is not the Star Wars you’re looking for. Disney was clearly pinching pennies on this series,” wrote Robert F. “Actors who aren’t. Writers who won’t. Directors who don’t. You could be excused for thinking this was perhaps a parody. Or even a comedy. I know I unintentionally laughed at several scenes. Ok, if you liked The Book of Boba Fett, perhaps you’ll like Obi-Wan. But if you’ve grown up with Star Wars since childhood like me, this is another one you’ll want to avoid.”

“Seriously this is NOT Kenobi. This version has nothing to do with him and, quite frankly, he seems to be almost an afterthought in the story,” Luke L. wrote. “The show doesn’t expand on him in any meaningful way and he has no agency whatsoever. What is the point? Pretty poor writing all around. It’s bland, clunky, and even the lightsaber battles look cheap. A massive disappointment.”

Chris C. wrote, “The series is just really weak, full of characters not acting realistically, inconsistent strength of the force, and awkward pacing. It’s a shame because the actors were really strong but the writing was just not there.

“Weak writing, very awkward action scenes, poor plot, and so much wasted potential,” wrote John D. “Good to see Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen (what little we see of him) back on the screen, just not like this. Wish the other actors had more to work with for their characters too. Disney failed to honor the legacy of the original trilogy characters and has now moved on to the prequel.”

Not All Viewers Are Giving ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Negative Reviews

That being said, there were some positive reviews for the series. Niklas A. wrote, “Really great show, probably the best and most ‘Star Wars’-y of the tv-series so far. Good connection material between movie episodes 3-4, as well as great for us who also watched Clone Wars and Rebels to give more about Obi-Wan and the years between.”

Evelyn M. wrote, “I love everything or almost everything that Ewan McGregor does in film and TV; I think he’s a great actor. So, I’m having fun with Obi-Wan Kenobi and I find it very entertaining, which is the main goal. It’s fantastic to see Darth Vader again and the scenery and cinematography are great.”

The fifth episode of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” will be released on Disney+ this Wednesday, June 15. The final episode of the six-episode limited series will air on Wednesday, June 22. At this time, a second season has not been confirmed.
