HBO Max officially renews Hacks for season 3. Created by Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky, Hacks debuted on HBO Max in 2021. Starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, Hacks follows legendary Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance (Smart) and young comedy writer Ava (Einbinder) as the two form a twisted mentorship in an effort to revive their stagnant careers. Following its premiere, Hacks garnered numerous accolades and critical acclaim across the board, mainly for Smart’s performance as Deborah. In June 2021, HBO announced that Hacks was renewed for season 2. Hacks season 2 concluded with major changes for its key players and offered a clear opening for another installment.

Now, it’s been confirmed that Deborah and Ava will be back. Per TVLine, HBO Max has renewed Hacks for season 3. The announcement of the third season arrives weeks after Hacks ended its second season on the streaming service. Speaking on the renewal, HBO Max’s Head of Original Content, Sarah Aubrey, said the platform is “…glad to give viewers more of this gorgeous, hilarious, moving show.” At this time, HBO Max has yet to announce the release date for Hacks season 3.

Featuring numerous real stand-up comedians, Hacks also stars Downs, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, and Megan Stalter. Offering potent chemistry between Smart and Einbinder, plenty of laughs, and an unflinching look at the world of comedy, Hacks continues to expand its world of storytelling. Hacks season 3 is likely to explore the fallout of Deborah and Ava’s road trip story arc from season 2 while offering a clean slate for its supporting characters. For now, fans of Hacks can look forward to seeing what’s in store for Deborah and Ava in the upcoming season 3.
