Zac Efron Starring In Wrestling Drama The Iron Claw

Looking to keep his career balanced between crowd-pleasing comedy and more focused indie work, Zac Efron has just signed on for his first film with arthouse outlet A24. He'll star in The Iron Claw, which has Martha Marcy May Marlene and The Nest's Sean Durkin writing and directing.

If you've ever wanted to see Efron in a wrestling singlet sweatily chucking other people around a ring, then you're in luck, as The Iron Claw is based on the true story of the Von Erichs, the film follows the rise and fall of the Von Erich family, a dynasty of wrestlers who made a huge impact on the sport across the pond from the 1960s to the present day. We're promised grittiness and transformative drama.

On the lighter side, he's also attached to a new, untitled Netflix rom-com that will reunite Efron with The Paperboy's Nicole Kidman.

Joey King is also aboard the movie, which has Richard LaGravenese directing and co-writing with Carrie Solomon. The story is set following a surprising romance which kicks off comic consequences for a young woman, her mother and her movie star boss as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity.

That one will shoot later this year, which means Efron will first be headed into the ring for Durkin's latest. And before either, he'll be seen in Peter Farrelly's The Greatest Beer Run Ever, which has the backing of Apple.
