Being married to the love of one’s life is truly an indication of a lucky inpidual, especially when you are in a same-sex relationship and have to deal with society’s prejudice and hatred. This becomes even more difficult when you are a Hollywood celebrity who is always in the limelight. But some people persevere and are tenacious in the face of love. Here are 13 LGBTQ+ Hollywood celebrities who have been with their partners for more than a decade now.

1. It has been 20 years since Jim Parsons and husband Todd Spiewak met on a blind date.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi became acquaintances in 2000 when they met at a party. It was not until 2004 that they started dating after VH1’s Big in ’04 Awards Show. The couple tied the knot in 2008 after California made same-sex marriages legal.

3. Elton John and David Furnish have been in love with each other since 1993.

According to The Guardian, the couple got a civil partnership in 2005 and a wedding ceremony in 2014 as soon as same-sex marriages were legalized in the UK. “Having our civil partnership was an incredible breakthrough for people that have campaigned for a long time — through the ’60s and the ’50s in England when it was so hard to be gay and hard to be open about it. And it was a criminal act,” Elton shared at the time.

4. It has been more than half a century since Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner fell in love.

Opening up in an interview with Variety Lily Tomlin narrated, “A friend brought her to my hotel room, and I tell you, in two minutes, I fell in love with her. She had on hot pants, stretchy boots that went up to her knee, and a little backpack. I don’t know what it was, but I was in love.”

5. George Takei and Brad Altman have been together since the ’80s.

George Takei and Brad Altman met at an LGBT club called LA Frontrunners in the ’80s. “Brad was a runner and I was a runner, and we both happened to join a gay running club. He was the best runner in the club. And also great-looking,” gushed George Takei to Oprah. The couple got married in 2008.

6. RuPaul and Georges LeBar met on a dancefloor in 1994 and are still going strong.

According to Pink News, RuPaul revealed to Hollywood Reporter, “We got married, actually, on our 23rd anniversary. I met him on the dancefloor at Limelight in 1994 on his birthday, so we got married on his birthday, the anniversary of when we met, this year in January.”

7. It has been 18 years since Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka went on their first date.

In an essay, the couple co-penned for Out magazine they spilled all the tea about their meet-cute, first date, and more. The couple met through a common friend while Burtka was in a long-distance relationship in the 2000s. They went on their first date in April 2004 and have been together ever since. “We started hanging out every single night, and after three months, it was just nonstop,” Burtka wrote. “We talk on the phone at least eight times a day and text at least 25 times a day.”

8. Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marinoni have been a New York City power couple since 2004.

According to Oprah Daily, the couple met in New York while campaigning for an education non-profit in 2001. They started dating in 2004 post Nixon’s split from ex-husband, Danny Mozes. The couple got engaged in 2009 and married in 2012.

9. Comedian Wanda Sykes and wife Alex Niedbalski have been married since 2008.

“In 2008, we were fighting for marriage equality. We asked [our] friends in lieu of gifts to support #NoProp8. Although CA Prop 8 passed, we eventually won marriage equality for the country via the Supreme Court,” wrote Wanda Sykes in an anniversary note for Alex. 

10. It has been 15 years since Tan and Rob France met on a dating app.

In an interview with the New York Post, Tan France revealed, “It made it easier to date somebody who had similarities to me. … I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t smoke.” On July 10, 2021, the couple welcomed their son, Ismail France via surrogacy.

11. Modern Family star, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and husband Justin Mikita have been together for more than a decade now.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita met at a gym during the early days of filming Modern Family. The couple got engaged in 2012 after being together for more than two years. The couple welcomed their first child in July 2020 via surrogacy. 

12. It has been more than a decade since Matt Bomer’s and Simon Hall’s intimate NYC wedding.

The Magic Mike actor and Hollywood publicity mogul have a private family life. The couple got married in an intimate affair in 2011. “It was very chill,” Bomer told Out magazine. “Very small: only our nearest and dearest. There’s a security, a validity of knowing that it’s legal. It’s hard to put into words. It’s just a feeling, I guess, something about saying vows in front of the people around who love and support you. I think it was good for our family.” The couple has three kids together.

13. Michael Kors and Lance LePere first started dating in the early 1990s.
