Lewis Hamilton uses his platform to support Sky Sports F1 commentator and former professional racing driver Naomi Schiff and brought big fashion energy to Canadian Grand Prix weekend in Montreal

Intro for June 20, 2022

Dear Gossips,

Lewis Hamilton won his first Formula 1 at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal in 2007. He was back on the podium yesterday, finishing third, and it was clear that it was a special moment given what Montreal means to him, and also what his result represents, hopefully, for his performances going forward.

That’s not the Lewis story I want to focus on here though. Heading into Canadian Grand Prix weekend, Lewis made headlines for speaking up in support of Naomi Schiff, a former professional racing driver who has now joined the Sky Sports F1 team as a commentator. And of course the trolls had to troll, questioning her qualifications for the job.

Naomi is an ex-professional racing driver & totally qualified to give her opinion as part of the Sky team. She’s been a great asset since joining & we should welcome more representative broadcasting with open arms. Still have a long way to go to change these attitudes in sport. https://t.co/E6U7zX4XqI

Lewis is unquestionably the king of motorsports, he understands the power of his platform and he uses it to raise awareness about inequality and to push for more representation. Too often, however, he’s the only voice out there; and while his voice, no doubt, is the loudest, it doesn’t mean this effort can’t be an ensemble. Lewis works on the track, but his contributions off the track strengthen the sport too. After all, motor racing can only benefit by being more inclusive. Drive to Survive has attracted a LOT of new fans to Formula 1, many of them from a younger demographic and many of them women. It was a bold new strategy by the sport with an eye to the future but those gains can’t be sustained if they go back to doing the same old.

Speaking of Lewis off track though, since he loves Montreal so much, he brought big fashion energy to his Montreal runway. Here he is in olive green and oversize Kenzo:

Then it was monochrome Fear of God:

And this is how Lewis does a Canadian tuxedo – another Kenzo fit, denim-on-denim, coveralls over a shirt, SO f-cking good.

In two weeks though, Lewis goes home and he’s always a extra hype for home. Silverstone is the next stop.

Yours in gossip,
