Everything We Know About Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2
There’s been lots of talk about Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2, but is it happening? For many years, there was no official word about an Obi-Wan Kenobi project, despite it being the most asked for follow-up to the Star Wars prequels. And then when it finally became an actual thing, getting the series onto Disney+ became a long and arduous journey, part of which was impacted by the ongoing pandemic.
The hype surrounding Obi-Wan Kenobi was palpable. Not only seeing the return of Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan, but also Hayden Christensen as both Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader, became a notable selling point for Disney+ and Lucasfilm. Although not every character and storyline resonated with audiences, the series ultimately delivered on what it set out to do – to show people what had become of the legendary Jedi Master and his former apprentice.
Now that the main story of rescuing Leia Organa and safeguarding the secret of Luke Skywalker’s existence is over, Obi-Wan himself can return to his somewhat peaceful life on Tatooine. However, there are still nine years’ worth of stories from when season 1 ends and where A New Hope begins, which means there’s always a chance of Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 happening.
Is Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Happening?
Right now, no, Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 isn’t happening yet. The series hasn’t been officially renewed, though there have been talks from the cast and crew about coming back for a second season. Ewan McGregor has said he’s open to Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2, and so has director Deborah Chow, who also mentioned that Obi-Wan Kenobi was conceived as a limited series and, therefore, doesn’t have any setup for a second season, at least not directly.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Story Ideas
When the Obi-Wan Kenobi series began, Obi-Wan was truly a hermit, living a life sheltered from society. He had severed himself from the Force and buried his lightsaber. But by the time A New Hope rolls around, Obi-Wan is attune with the Force once more and has his lightsaber with him, as well as Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber. Star Wars fans even know that Obi-Wan fights and kills Maul on Tatooine in the time before A New Hope, so seeing what his life was like up to that moment would make for an intriguing second season.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Release Date Prediction
In total, it took Obi-Wan Kenobi less than three years to go from announcement to release, and that includes a delay due to script issues as well as the pandemic’s impact. Should Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 happen, it could release within two years, perhaps by spring or summer 2024. Still, that requires an early renewal announcement by Lucasfilm and Disney+, along with confirmation that a story has been decided on. Otherwise, it could take years to find the right story to tell.
