My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 Now Shooting In Greece
While the original My Big Fat Greek Wedding in 2002 was widely acclaimed, Oscar-nominated and remains the highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time, neither the spin-off TV series nor the 2016 sequel had the same impact. Still, creator Nia Vardalos is still mining family drama for comedy and is now working on a third film, which has begun shooting in Greece.
Vardalos, who created the stage show which spawned the original film (with a small assist from Rita Wilson), is writing and starring as usual and, as she reveals via Instagram, also directing this time.
The plot's being kept quiet for now, though Deadline's sources have heard that the wedding this time will be that of Paris, daughter of Toula (Vardalos) and Ian (John Corbett), and that it'll be mostly set in Greece rather than Chicago. Naturally, Toula's rowdy, passionate family will be involved, though the film will have to make do without Michael Constantine, who played Toula's father, but who died last August.
There's no word on when the movie might make its debut.
