Whose Blue Arm Was That?! Ms. Marvel’s Alien Mystery Explained

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Ms. Marvel episode 3.

Ms. Marvel has revealed how Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani)’s family found her bangle, but a severed blue arm in episode 3 has led to more questions and theories than answers. In Ms. Marvel season 1, episode 3, “Destined,” a prologue set in 1942 reveals Kamala’s great-grandmother, Aisha (Mehwish Hayat), is searching for bangles in British Occupied India. Though it appears the British likely already looted the cave, Aisha and her colleagues find the bangle, but it is on a severed arm beneath the rubble.

In Ms. Marvel’s season 1, episode 2, “Crushed,” Kamala is saved from the Department of Damage Control by Kamran (Rish Shah), who then introduces Kamala to his mother, Najma (Nimra Bucha). Najma tells Kamala the story of her great-grandmother and the bangle in Ms. Marvel season 1, episode 3, “Destined,” and reveals that the bangle might be their way home, before explaining that they are from another dimension and are known as Djinn.

The most likely explanation for the severed arm is that the wearer was also a Djinn. In the original Marvel comics, the Djinn appeared as blue-colored entities, which could explain the blue arm found in Ms. Marvel. The Djinn have many different powers, some of which are stronger than others. While some are able to live free, others are forced to serve under the command of another and can be bound to objects like books or lamps. Yet while the arm belonging to a Djinn is the most likely explanation, the blue arm and bangle could also still be a link to Kamala Khan’s comic book origin.

Another explanation for the blue arm in Ms. Marvel could be that it belongs to a Kree. Kree are a blue-skinned race of extraterrestrial beings from the planet Hala. They are scientifically and technologically advanced, so the bangle could be their technology. If the hand is of Kree origin, this could be a Marvel connection to Inhumans, who were created by the Kree experimenting with ancient humans. This could also explain why Kamala cannot access her powers without the bangle. Since Kree created the Inhumans and Inhumans could not access their powers without Terrigenesis, a ritual that triggers a mutation in Inhumans to reveal their powers, the bangle could be some sort of Terrigen mist that triggers her powers. Most Kree are blue in the MCU, and they created Inhumans, so the Kree are one, albeit less likely explanation as to who the arm could belong to.

However, the scene where Aisha discovers the bangle also contains a hidden reference to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which contradicts this theory. In the cave where the bangle and blue arm are found, there is a symbol of the ten rings on the ground. Captain Marvel previously explained in the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings mid-credits scene that the rings were unlike any alien technology she had ever seen, so if the bangle and the ten rings are related, they are both not likely to be alien technology of any kind.

Significant changes have been made to Ms. Marvel‘s powers and origin, making it unclear whether Kamala is still an Inhuman, like in the comics. If the blue arm attached to the bangle is confirmed to be Kree, this could be Marvel’s confirmation that Kamala is Inhuman. However, with the connections between Ms. Marvel and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the reveal that Kamala and her family are Djinn, the blue arm likely belongs to another Djinn, which means the MCU is likely veering away from Kamala’s comic book origins.
