Chris Daughtry Performed A “Natural” Burial Rite For Hannah, Just Like She Wanted

Chris Daughtry, who lost his mother to cancer and step-daughter Hannah to suicide a week apart, recently shared how he dealt with the saddening loss.

While on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Daughtry opened up about his guilt-filled moments while also disclosing the helpful healing process he and his family underwent.

When asked how he has been doing since the unfortunate losses, the North Carolina-born stated that it had been a “very healing time” in his household.

He processed both losses differently and admitted that the most challenging thing common in both deaths was the guilt.

Daughtry explained, “The ‘I wish I would have said this, I wish I would have done this, I wish I would have called more, I wish I would have um’…all the things,” adding that those moments of guilt were tough.

He and his family have dealt with the loss in “a very healthy way,” and they performed a “natural” burial rite for Hannah, just like she wanted.

The Grammy nominee further detailed the “incredible” burial, revealing that his kids were involved in the rituals, making him have a “heavy, magical” indescribable feeling.

He confessed that the ceremony was healing, with his family being a part of the whole process and not just “sitting on the outside.”

Daughtry also spoke on the “liberating” feeling of self-releasing his latest album, “Dearly Beloved,” using his own label. He called it a “gratifying experience” that made him proud of the record. In his words:

“Very liberating, um, to not have any voice but your own in your tight circle of producers and writers that you work with.”

He added, “I wasn’t chasing anything, I wasn’t trying to write a radio song or this or that, it was just like ‘let’s write,’ and that was such a gratifying experience, and I’m most proud of this record because of it.”

Clarkson noted that such freedom as an artist was “cool,” and she loved that for him. She then concluded the show and thanked the guest star for his appearance.

Earlier this year, The Blast reported on Daughtry’s step-daughter’s official cause of death based on a statement released by her family.

The release showed that after a full investigation, it was proclaimed that Hannah died by suicide while intoxicated with sedatives on November 12, 2021.

It is worth knowing that the then-25-year-old struggled with mental illness from a young age and “was in and out of therapy and treatment centers” for several years.

The statement further disclosed that as she got older, she had challenges with her stability and began using drugs, often ending up in “abusive relationships.”

Hannah had it rough before her death despite her treatments and family care. She lost her biological father to suicide and was shot in the face months after.

Her family did everything they could to support her and get her the help she needed to recover from the past tragedies and put her life back on track.

They also planned for her to “seek further treatments and move closer to the family” not long before she took her life.

Hannah’s dead body was reportedly found by her boyfriend Bobby Jolly, who saw her hanged inside her home and called 911.

She would be dearly missed by her family and loved ones, who described her as a “generous and loving person who wanted more for herself and others.”

The “American Idol” Alum’s Step-Daughter Was In An Unstable Relationship With Her Boyfriend

Not long after Daughtry’s step-daughter’s death and while investigations were still going on, The Blast shared more details about the deceased’s abusive relationship with her boyfriend.

Her death was initially rumored to be a homicide at the time, but there were no confirmed suspects. The Fentress County Sheriff’s Office also stated that it was too “premature” for such classification.

Several believed her boyfriend had a hand in her death as he was apprehended the same day her body was found. Nonetheless, he was not charged or named a person of interest in the case.

As for the former couple’s unstable relationship, Hannah’s friend revealed that she believed Jolly stopped Hannah from talking to many people as the last time she spoke to her late friend was last August.

She further revealed that Jolly should not be the only suspect if the death were considered murder, as Hannah had several questionable involvements.
