“BREAK MY SOUL” ushers in a new era of House sound for Bey and contains powerful lyrics preaching ease and fun amid the world’s chaos as we approach summer.

It begins with an intentional declaration from Beyoncé about what this new era means for her.

I’mma let down my hair ’cause I lost my mind
Bey is back and I’m sleeping real good at night
The queen’s in the front and the Dom’s in the back
Ain’t taking no flicks but the whole clique snapped.

According to PitchFork, the dance track which is #6 from the “RENAISSANCE” album pays tribute to the House sound of the ’90s, common within queer Black and Latinx communities.

It is also an undeniable Pride anthem with Big Freedia’s vocals championing Black queer tradition in the intro and verse, chanting,

Release your anger, release your mind
Release your job, release the time
Release your trade, release the stress
Release the love, forget the rest.

“BREAK MY SOUL” was produced by Beyoncé, The-Dream, and Tricky Stewart, the genius trio that created the brilliance that is “Single Ladies.”

Bey, her husband Jay-Z, Big Freedia, Adam Pigott (a.k.a BlaqNmilD), and the writers of Robin S’s 1993 hit “Show Me Love” — which was evidently sampled in the almost 5-minute track — were credited as writers.
