April Simpkins Reveals The Emotional Message Chelsie Kryst Left Her

On Wednesday, May 4, Simpkins appeared on the Facebook series “Red Table Talk” hosted by Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett, her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and only daughter Willow.

Kryst’s matriarch opened up about the heart-wrenching last text she sent her before jumping off her high-rise apartment in Midtown Manhattan in January. The note began

“First, I’m sorry, by the time you get this, I won’t be alive anymore. And it makes me even more sad to write this because I know it will hurt you the most.”

Simpkins received the message while at her exercise class as her daughter predicted she would be unable to stop what she was planning to do.

The heartbroken mother came upon the message an hour after her offspring sent it. She became overtaken with sorrow knowing her child had already taken her life at that point. Kryst typed:

“I love you, mom, and you are my best friend, and the person I’ve lived for for years. I wish I could stay with you, but I cannot bear the crushing weight of persistent sadness, hopelessness, and loneliness any longer.”

The former Miss USA explained that she kept her feelings to herself in order not to worry her mother and in hopes that they would change, but she knew they would not. She admitted:

“They follow me through every accomplishment, success, family gathering, friendly dinner. I cry almost every day now, like I’m in mourning. I wished for death for years. And I know you would want to know and want to help, but I haven’t wanted to share this weight with anyone.”

Kryst thanked her mother for being there for her in some of her loneliest moments without being asked. She praised her, writing:

“You have kept me alive and ready to face another day, because you answer every phone call, and you are there for me at the drop of a hat. You listen to me and care when I tell you what goes on in my life and you’ve always made me feel like you loved me.”

The late 30-year-old loved her matriarch more than anyone she had ever known. She absolved her of any connections to taking her life, saying, “You’ve done nothing wrong, you’ve done everything right.”

Simpkins expressed that Kryst added her dying wishes and other private information in her message, which she did not share with her hosts.

The loving matriarch also revealed that her daughter battled depression in her early 20s and attempted to take her life in the past.

The Blast disclosed that on April 30, the “Extra” correspondent’s body was found outside the 60-story Orion Condominium building where she lived in New York City.

According to Kryst’s publicized autopsy results, she took her life after jumping off a floor on the upper part of the building.

Kryst would have clocked 31-years-old on April 28, 2022, and her loving mother and father, Rodney, held a public vigil in her honor.

The Blast shared a statement from the parents, which read that they have been receiving an outpour of support and love for their daughter, and they are grateful. They continued,

“Many have asked how best to honor Charlie’s memory on her birthday. This is an individual decision, and we would not presume to decide how any fan, friend, or former colleague should remember Cheslie or memorialize her on her upcoming birthday.”

Rodney and Simpkins asked fans to donate to Dress For Success – The Cheslie Kryst Women’s Advancement Fund,  and Wake Forest University School of Law – The Cheslie C. Kryst Social Justice Scholarship.

The last charities include the University of South Carolina – The Cheslie C. Kryst Scholarship Fund, and The Dean’s List – The Cheslie C. Kryst Woman In Media Award.
