Calling All The Men: Where’s The Outrage On Roe V. Wade From Hollywood?

Friday, June 24 dawned rather horrendously for millions of women in America, whose constitutional right to seek an abortion was stripped away. At least 26 states are now expected to outlaw abortion or introduce stringent policies over it, considering the Supreme Court, SCOTUS, overturned Roe V. Wade in a 6-3 decision.

The celebrities are shocked, disappointed, hurt but angry and the outrage is pouring through on social media. Unsurprisingly, the outrage is mostly female. So the question arises, where are the men at? The silence of the heroes of Hollywood and the men of the music industry is deafening…

The Men Who Did Respond To SCOTUS Overturning Roe V. Wade

MEGA

At a time when the mental, physical, sexual, reproductive, and physiological health of millions of American women is at risk, this is basically not a religious decision at all.

As Saint Hoax puts it:

Let’s talk about the Baldwins for a moment here, who have taken an oath to keep their corner of the world as densely populated as they can. The same people who make fun of the ever-increasing brood of Alec and Hilaria Baldwin expected them to be silent about Roe V. Wade today.

Hilaria Baldwin is not. And her husband has shown support for her post.

Hilaria uploaded a picture of her daughter, twirling around in slow-mo, with the caption: “I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own. – Audre Lorde.
Be wild and free, my daughter… let’s go friends…this isn’t over✊”

Alec Baldwin replied with a “Bravo”, and this one word is far more than what other men of Hollywood and music have said.

One of the esteemed men who did take a stand was former POTUS, Barack Obama, who made an impassioned Twitter statement.

Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, it relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues—attacking the essential freedoms of millions of Americans.

Hats off to Governor Tim Walz, Minnesota:

Let me be very clear: This ruling changes nothing in Minnesota today, tomorrow, or as long as I am governor. We will not turn back the clock on reproductive rights.

Meanwhile, Ken Olin has an interesting take:

I think we should stop all film production in States that make abortions illegal.

Where Them Heroes At?

The world’s biggest heroes, at least on the big screen, are either with Marvel, in the MCU, or in the Justice League. These are the actors with the biggest take-home salaries and huge social media followings.

Some of the women of both the franchises posted bits on their IG stories.

The men have been strangely silent, meaning the heroes have let us down.

Shoutout to Ryan Reynolds for not saying much, but at least sharing Michelle Obama’s viewpoint.

And we trust in Hulk, as in Mark Ruffalo, to “smash”…

Time to fight like hell in any way you know how. The American Taliban has taken over the Supreme Court. https://t.co/9WYVSIv59Z

Chris Evans made himself heard as well:

This ruling is outrageous, heartbreaking, and puts Americans’ lives in danger right now. They overturned Roe, but we will never give up. We will overcome Dobbs.

More Men Rise To The Occasion Denouncing Roe V. Wade Reversal

Standing ovation for Harry Styles here:

But there is definitely good news from major Hollywood studios like Disney, Marvel, Paramount, and Netflix who will bear travel expenses for their employees who need to go to safe states to get the deed done. For once, Hollywood wins.

Major entertainment companies are already saying they will pay for employees in red states to travel for abortions. Some details here: pic.twitter.com/RjR8qnA0g9

Then there’s Seth McFarlane:

Not too long ago, this would have been dystopian sci-fi. But the legacy of the 2016 election and the indelible mark of the GOP is printed here in black and white. How much farther this will go once again depends on American voters. Blame extremism or apathy, but this is America: pic.twitter.com/WefAworLlW

Jon Stewart:

Perhaps Roe can be salvaged if women reclassify their vaginas as holsters. #iykyk

— Jon Stewart (@jonstewart) June 23, 2022

Andy Cohen:

What a sad day for this country. Guns for everybody and no reproductive rights. Twisted. Twisted.

— Andy Cohen (@Andy) June 24, 2022

Danny DeVito:

Supreme Court my ass

From the rest of the celebrities who play onscreen heroes or onstage rockstars, the silence is deafening. We leave you with the words of Joe Biden.
