She recently recalled her struggle with depression and anxiety since she was 18 years old. Now 41, the actress and singer opened up about how she has managed it all this while. After speaking to herself, she noted that everyone had to take care of themselves or no one else would. “You have an obligation to take care of yourself from the inside out,” she said.

She added, “You are not alone,” comforting fans dealing with depression and anxiety. She also urged them to accept themselves for who they were and practice self-love. “Never feel embarrassed or ashamed about who you are.”

Bell has also encouraged fans to seek therapy for their mental health in the past. In a 2015 interview with Good Housekeeping, she recommended therapy for people going through something they can’t talk about. “There may be something that really hurt your feelings that you’re scared to bring up,” Bell said. “Go talk about it with a therapist.”

Therapy Helped Her Marriage

Bell seems to really trust therapy. While she advised fans with depression to seek therapy, she revealed that it worked magic in another aspect of her life; her marriage. In an appearance on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2021, she noted that she and her husband, Dax Shepard saw a therapist at some point.

She recalled that the issues started during the pandemic. They were always annoyed and irritated with each other. She was determined to make the marriage work, so she suggested therapy sessions.

“At the beginning of the pandemic, we were at each other’s throats. And then all the doors locked in our house, like, we had to stay inside, and we were like: ‘Woof. We need to get a handle on the annoyances,'” she recalled. “And our therapist, Harry, who I love so much… Harry suggested, since we were both so annoyed with each other… He suggested we go to therapy separately so that we could talk sh-t about each other.”

She also noted that it worked for them, and she was thankful. “It’s been great,” Bell said. She also added that she and Shepard would call their therapist via Zoom to complain about each other every two weeks.

Her Depression And Anxiety

In an interview with Self last year, she opened up about her mental health. She dealt with depression and anxiety for the first time when she left Michigan for acting school in New York at 18. “I wasn’t suicidal,” the actress insisted. “It was just a generalized dark cloud over me. I felt like my real personality was in a tiny cage inside my body.”

She recalled asking herself at the time why she felt “terrible and exhausted every day.” She spoke about this with her mother, who was a registered nurse and recommended some antidepressants for her. Her mother also explained that the family had a history of anxiety and depression, and she was not alone.

Another hack for Bell was taking long walks to clear her head. These simple solutions helped the actress manage her mental health. In a statement to Today in 2019, Bell noted that she’d always have to “check” herself to be sure she was fine.

She said, “Sometimes, if I’m feeling really low, [I] make a checklist of good and bad things in my life to see if it’s my mental state or if we really have a problem.”

Despite her struggle with her mental health, Bell seems to be doing great, and fans are happy for her. She recently shared a video of her, Shepard, and their beautiful daughters having fun in the swimming pool. She shares two daughters, Lincoln, nine, and Delta, 7, with the actor and comedian.

The team tried to recreate a “Top Gun” scene, and fans could hear the girls trying to pick code names. Bell captioned the cute video: “The hardest part of this mission was picking code names” with the hashtags “#topgun #ferret #brownbear #gooselips #turkeylegs #rooster #possomman.”

While there is no news about upcoming films, Bell recently starred in the Netflix series “The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window.” In the series, she plays a woman interested in her stunning neighbor who believes she saw a murder happen.
