From “Training Day” To “Clueless”, Here Are 19 Car Scenes Are Absolutely Genius
I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for car scenes in movies and TV shows.
Something as simple as a car journey can often help people loosen up and speak more freely — research by Zipcar UK proves this!
FXWho doesn’t love a girl’s trip? From the outfits to the music, Pose captured that holiday mood we all long for in this scene. I loved every second of it, except for Elektra on that steering wheel because she nearly crashed and ruined the vacation before it even began!
New Line CinemaThis scene is one of my favourites from the movie as I feel like they mastered how women talk to their friends. It was natural and unapologetic, and the giggles of excitement and the vivid description of how everything went down are wayyyy too accurate.
20th Century StudiosThis movie took me on a rollercoaster of emotions, and this scene was no exception. We always think we have forever to do and achieve what we want, but the sad reality is that it can get taken from us in a split second. I would’ve liked to see how this friendship/relationship blossomed but, if anything, it shows the importance of living your best life with each second and moment.
Fox Searchlight PicturesIn this scene, everyone could relate to Andre regardless of the circumstance. He had a passion for hip-hop, and he wanted everyone to see that through his work, but it became unenjoyable. What he remembered as hip-hop growing up was slowly changing, and sometimes it’s hard for us as humans to realise that things fade. It’s a light scene that doesn’t seem that deep, but definitely, it’s a turning point for him.
Warner Bros. PicturesIf, like me, you’re addicted to TikTok, then you’ll know this clip has done the rounds, and now I can’t get New New’s voice out of my head. Aside from that, it’s one of my favourite romantic scenes because it was so natural, and you can’t go wrong with Aaliyah’s sweet voice playing in the background to make this scene *chef’s kiss*.
Columbia PicturesThis scene went from zero to 100 real quick, but when you think about it, it’s quite accurate. Justice had no interest in getting to know Lucky, and after a while, I can’t help but agree with her because was there a need to call her a bitch just because she wasn’t talking? Tupac’s acting was phenomenal here — he was behaving just like one of those entitled men, and I couldn’t help but love how cutthroat he was.
Sony Pictures ReleasingThere are a lot of funny scenes in this movie, but this one in particular always has me howling. Kevin and Marcus forgot they were impersonating white girls and confidently said the n-word — the looks on their faces were priceless!
New Line CinemaThis scene captures two polar opposites coming together and somehow making it work regardless of their differences, and it’s hilarious!
New Line CinemaNo one hypes up this scene, but I particularly like it because it shows that they did care about each other’s future. Quincy called her out on her attitude, but Monica responded by highlighting the struggles of being a female basketball player. So I guess they both learned a thing or two?
New Line CinemaThis scene will always have a place in my heart as it solidified to me what real friendship truly is. It’s rare to come across a character that is a true ride-or-die friend, but Cleo was willing to do anything for her mates in a heartbeat!
Buena Vista PicturesBig Time Willie shed light on the obstacles a Black man can face, and it showed how versatile Roger Guenveur Smith is as an actor. It was refreshing to see him explain things so well; I was fully immersed in what he was saying, it was super impressive!
Warner Bros. PicturesI particularly love this scene because Denzel’s character Alonzo is really complex. The acting is phenomenal; Jake was clearly very scared and confused by Alonzo’s actions, and Alonzo would play on that. He justified his actions by pushing his manipulative streak aside and replacing it with sincerity and calmness.
ABC / The WBNot only did they sink their car in the lake, but they got so excited that they ended up in Mexico! You would’ve thought they’d learn their lesson from previous capers, but once again, the twins proved that they could be anything but responsible adults!
Paramount PicturesI haven’t started my driving lessons yet, but I somehow think I’d mirror Dionne’s reckless driving. I mean, did you see the way sis swerved into the other lane? No warning or anything
Miramax FilmsI still get goosebumps every time I watch this scene, and knowing Mekhi wrote this scene makes it even more remarkable! In the original, he was supposed to have a brief meet-up with Ace, but in an interview with Sway In The Morning, Mekhi shared how he wanted to show the ups and downs of Mitch’s short life.
It turned out to be one of the most impactful scenes of the movie and one that allowed us to see a different side of the flashy drug dealer. It certainly shone a light on the dangers of getting involved in such a lifestyle.
Universal PicturesIf you’re a fan of this movie like I am, you’d know that it’s a miracle seeing Jimmy crack a smile. When he was around his friends, you could see his character soften. This scene is just pure vibes that you honestly can’t fault even if you wanted to, and the Biggie song was the cherry on top of the cake!
Sony Pictures ReleasingJackie Chan’s performance in this scene brought me to tears, as his grumpy man facade was replaced with a broken man. Many of us have experienced the pain of losing someone close to us, and this moment serves as an important message. Though we get knocked down, we have to choose whether we want to get back up or not, and it’s a turning point for both characters that ultimately drives them forward.
Sony Pictures ReleasingBefore Maddy and Nate, there was Yvette and Jody. They were the original toxic couple who had the most complex relationship. This scene will always be a memorable one to me due to the lack of respect Jody had for Yvette. He was the definition of a serial cheater who couldn’t own up to his mistakes.
FX / Disney-ABC Domestic TelevisionThe fact that this show hasn’t picked up a single Emmy for either writing or acting still doesn’t sit right with me! In this scene, instead of calling Leon out on the spot, Franklin took their issues into the privacy of no prying eyes and dealt with him accordingly. It showed great leadership, and the fire and passion within this voice stays giving me the chills!
