Seriously, Every Percy Jackson Update Makes Disney+'s Show More Exciting
A new Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is being developed for Disney+, and it keeps getting more exciting with each new update. Information on the series is slowly starting to trickle out, and the show seems to be headed in a much better direction than previous adaptations of Rick Riordan’s books. While the Percy Jackson films were met with mixed reviews, the upcoming Disney+ show seems much more promising.
Percy Jackson follows the titular demigod as he moves to Camp Half-Blood after discovering that he is the son of the Greek god Posideon. The franchise started as a book series from Rick Riordan consisting of five mainline books that ran from 2005 to 2009. After the success of the books, a Percy Jackson movie series began, but its many failures caused the series to end after only two films. With the announcement of the Disney+ show, Percy Jackson was given a second chance, bringing with it renewed hope that the series would finally deliver a faithful adaptation of the beloved books.
While there still isn’t a trailer, details about Disney+’s Percy Jackson have been steadily released, and they are almost all good signs. The fact that it is a series already makes the show more exciting, as the five-book story suits itself better to multiple seasons rather than movies. On top of that, the casting announcements for Percy Jackson have been met with praise from the Percy Jackson fandom, with each of the show’s actors being far more accurate to the book’s characters than their movie counterparts. Most recently, Rick Riordan commented on early Percy Jackson footage, declaring his approval for the show. Riordan famously hated the movies, refusing to watch them, so his involvement and approval of the Disney+ adaptation make it all the more exciting.
Much of Percy Jackson‘s positive feedback has come from those directly involved in the show, which can cause skepticism. However, some of the creative choices taken by the Disney+ alone point to a better overall product than the movies. Firstly, the show has promised to be more book-accurate, with the movies being criticized for their heavy departure from the source material. The upcoming Percy Jackson show will also use cutting-edge technology, utilizing the same StageCraft stages ILM used on The Mandalorian. Furthermore, Percy Jackson will also feature diverse representation to a greater extent than the movies, with inclusion being one of the book series’ central themes. Overall, these new updates make it seem like the stars are finally aligned, and a proper Percy Jackson adaptation is on the way.
The story details, production updates, and Rick Riordan’s approval all make Percy Jackson on Disney+ so much more exciting. The promising cast and crew are setting a high bar for the series, with a future trailer hopefully meeting the already high expectations the show is setting for itself. Fans have been clamoring for a great adaptation for years, and these exciting updates make it likely that Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series will finally be it.
