What Happens To Triss In Witcher Season 3 (Book Story & Future Explained)

As the wheels turn on The Witcher season 3, there’s plenty of speculation about what will happen to Triss, especially following season 2’s chaotic end. Triss Merigold will rejoin the returning cast of characters in the third installment of Netflix’s hit fantasy series, The Witcher, though not much is known about season 3’s plot. However, last December, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich revealed that The Witcher season 3’s story would follow the events of the second novel in The Witcher Saga, “The Time of Contempt.”

Of all the major characters in The Witcher last season, Triss’ story is the one that doesn’t get closure, as she just storms off, upset, in her final season 2 appearance. Season 2 highlighted Triss’ unrequited feelings for Geralt, which went unreciprocated because Geralt was still not over Yennefer. The steaming romance between Geralt and Yennefer has been one of the major attractions of The Witcher, though the existence of a potential love triangle divided audiences. However, the show lays the conflict to rest by killing all hopes of a possible romance between Triss and Geralt when the silver-haired warrior declines her expressions of love.

Based on Hissrich’s admission that The Witcher season 3 will mirror Book 2 of The Witcher Saga, Triss is expected to make a comeback. In “The Time of Contempt,” Geralt and Yennefer reconcile and attend a banquet at Thanedd Island. The Thanned Coup follows soon after, and Geralt is critically wounded. In the midst of the confusion, with Yennefer nowhere to be found and Ciri lost somewhere in the desert, Triss emerges to save the day, taking Geralt to safety with Tissaia’s help. So, depending on how closely season 3 follows the book, there should be plenty of opportunity for Geralt and Triss to cross paths again.

However, audiences shouldn’t expect that Triss will get much screen time in The Witcher season 3 as the story is really not about her. Rather, The Witcher season 3 focuses on Ciri’s growing powers and destiny as the world’s savior or destroyer and the struggle to keep her powers under control, judging from what season 2 set up. Audiences can, however, expect to see the now red-haired Triss again, opening up the possibility that there may still be a chance for sparks to fly between Triss and the Witcher.

Season 2 bowed out with plenty of action, leaving much promise for The Witcher season 3. With no release date in sight, viewers can only speculate about whether their favorite characters will make a comeback or not. However, many new characters are expected to come aboard in season 3. Regardless of what the season holds, audiences can rest assured that Triss Merigold should return for The Witcher season 3 and have an impact on its story.
