Montero Lamar Hill, best known by his stage name Lil Nas X, is one of the rising stars in the music industry with several accolades under his signature cowboy belt.

Although the singer has achieved worldwide recognition for his talents, the 23-year-old recently revealed that BET showrunners do not appreciate him for shocking reasons.

With the prestigious award ceremony, which celebrates Black excellence in the entertainment industry, happening over the weekend, Nas X opened up to Rolling Stone about his bittersweet relationship with the network.

According to the “Rodeo” artist, his feud with BET was not a sudden occurrence as there has been a history of bad blood between the pair.

The Billboard chart-topper confessed that his relationship with the Network has been “painful and strained for quite some time,” noting that the friction between them began in 2021.

At the time, the Georgia native sparked outrage from religious and conservative bodies following the release of his pop-rap anthem “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”

Adding fuel to the burning inferno was the song’s controversial music video, where Nas X showed off his pole and lap dancing skills in the devil’s territory.

That wasn’t all! The “Holiday” singer also received backlash for his shocking partnership with MSCHF company to release the infamous “satan shoes” containing drops of human blood.

This series of events was followed by several accusations that Nas X worshiped Satan, a notion BET organizers seemed to share as they did not allow the artist to perform at their 2021 show before verifying his religious beliefs.

Recalling the unpleasant moment, the “Panini” rapper explained, “They did let me perform on their show last year, but only after [I gave] assurances that I was not a satanist or devil worshiper and that my performance would be appropriate for their audience”

The ‘MONTERO’ Rapper’s Kissing Stunt Got Him In Trouble

Sharing more on the matter, an insider from Nas X’s team revealed that BET showrunner’s queried them about what the singer would do at the show before permitting him to take the stage.

Things took a turn for the worse after the AMA winner’s performance ended with him kissing one of the dancers on stage, an action BET did not find funny.

The source claimed that the show’s organizers were disappointed and felt they were used by Nas, noting that the producers expressed their displeasure immediately after his performance ended.

“After [Nas] got offstage, one of the BET producers came up to me and before I could even open my mouth, he looked at me and said, ‘That was really f**ked up,’ ” the team member said.

However, a BET spokesperson refuted these claims, explaining that their showrunners have been in touch with the singer’s team to work on future projects because they genuinely enjoyed his 2021 performance.

As for why he did not get any nominations in 2022, the rep confirmed that it was nothing personal as BET had no control over the voting body responsible for selecting nominees.

The “SCOOP” Singer Believes Black Gays Are Being Excluded In The Entertainment Industry

As reported by The Blast, the 23-year-old artist expressed his displeasure with BET in a series of since-deleted tweets following his exclusion from this year’s nomination list.

In the “INDUSTRY BABY” singer’s Twitter rant, he stated that Black gay people were treated unfairly in the entertainment industry.

According to the Georgia native, Black gays struggled to be seen by society but people still acted like they are invisible despite their successes.

In response to critics who accused Nas of using his status as “Black and homosexual” to earn a BET nomination, the “Void” singer pointed out that he was more than worthy of the prestigious award.

With a “critically acclaimed” album and three of the highest chart-topping songs in 2021, the Hal David Starlight Award winner believed he deserved a spot at this year’s ceremony.
