Stranger Things Actor Has a Cool Idea For Possible Season 5 Return

Warning! MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for Stranger Things season 4 volume 2.

Stranger Things season 4 star Joseph Quinn has shared his idea for a potential return in season 5, having even discussed it with co-star Joe Keery. Quinn joined the hit Netflix sci-fi series as the metalhead guitarist and Dungeons & Dragons club leader Eddie Munson in Stranger Things season 4. Volume 2 of season 4 recently released on July 1st, 2022.

This season finds Munson believed to be responsible for a series of gruesome murders, with Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo), Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), Steve Harrington (Joe Keery), and Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) setting out to help him clear his name. When it’s discovered that the true culprit is a threat from the Upside Down, Eddie joins the group in attempting to stop the otherworldly horrors, venturing into the dimension to save the town. In a devastating moment from Stranger Things season 4, Eddie gives his life to distract the colony of Demobats long enough for Nancy, Steve, and Robin to put an end to Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), succumbing to his wounds in front of a distraught Dustin. While Eddie’s fate seems sealed, Quinn has revealed that he has some ideas on how the series’ latest fan-favorite character could return.

In an interview with RadioTimes, Quinn revealed that Keery and he had discussed potential ideas for how Eddie could return in Stranger Things season 5. The actor stated that he and Keery had imagined Eddie appearing to Dustin as a figment of his imagination, as well as him potentially returning via supernatural means if possible. Despite his ideas, Quinn said that he feels Eddie had fulfilled his purpose for now. Check out Quinn’s full comment below.

“Me and Joe Keery (Steve Harrington) were discussing ways in which I could kind of…maybe I’d be like a figment of Gaten’s imagination or something. Like if there could be some kind of room for something like that, something a bit supernatural.

“But my suspicion is that Eddie has done what he needed to do for the [Duffer] brothers.”

Following Stranger Things season 4, volume 2’s release, it was revealed Quinn improvised lines for Eddie’s death scene. The Duffer Brothers later revealed that Quinn also improvised Eddie’s line to Steve, “Don’t you, big boy?“, as he handed the wheel of the hotwired RV over to Harrington. Clearly, Quinn has a terrific grasp of Eddie as a character and his improvisations, in particular his his final words to Dustin, “I love you, man,” only helped make his character so memorable and a firm fan-favorite.

As such, audiences were heartbroken to see the character meet an untimely end. Previously, Quinn expressed his interest in returning for season 5, and his recent comments show he is still open to the possibility despite Eddie’s death. While Eddie’s role is seemingly fulfilled, Stranger Things has had actors reprise roles despite their characters’ fates, with both Sean Astin and Dacre Montgomery having small cameos as Bob Newby and Billy Hargrove after their characters’ deaths. In which case, a brief appearance by Quinn could easily be within the realm of possibility in season 5.
