The Metallica Sequence Was Joe Quinn's Favorite Stranger Things Moment

Eddie Munson actor Joseph Quinn says his favorite Stranger Things moment was season 4’s Metallica sequence. Stranger Things began streaming exclusively on Netflix in July of 2016, and has gone on to become Netflix’s most popular English-language original series. The fourth season premiered this year, with the first volume dropping on Netflix in May, and the second volume debuting on July 1. As of May 30, prior to volume 2’s release, Stranger Things season 4 was viewed for more that 287 million hours worldwide.

Introduced in season 4, Quinn’s character Eddie is a metal-loving, guitar-playing, Dungeons & Dragons-obsessed teenager. Despite only appearing in the most recent season of Stranger Things, Eddie has become an instant fan-favorite character for his charisma, his attitude, and his loyalty to his friends. The guitarist for his band Corroded Coffin, fans had the opportunity to see Eddie shred on his electric guitar several times throughout season 4 – and being a guitarist in real life, Quinn did all of Eddie’s rocking-out himself.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Quinn admitted that his favorite moment of Stranger Things was Eddie’s Metallica sequence at the end of volume 2. Playing a rendition of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets,” Eddie stands in the Upside Down amidst flashing red lightning, facing down a hoard of demonic bats (demobats), to create an epic distraction so that his friends can survive. Quinn says that, while he loved acting in scenes with the rest of the Stranger Things cast, the Metallica sequence was one of the coolest moments of his life. Check out Quinn’s full comment below:

“I think all of the scenes with all of the gang. I loved the kind of ensemble stuff, when you’re just getting into it with everyone… But I’d say that the highlight was probably the Metallica sequence, just because it was so fun. The whole time I was doing it, I was like, “I’m never gonna be able to do anything this cool again. This is it, so make the most of it.”

Stranger Things has had its fair share of epic sequences, particularly when it comes to the ensemble cast facing off against the Mindflayer, Vecna, or any other number of demonic creatures. The show’s special effects have been nominated for several awards since the first season, with each new season seeming to bring even bigger and more dramatic effects to the small screen. Stranger Things has also won several awards for music and music mixing over the years, and there is no better instance of the show’s special effects and music mixing prowess than the season 4 finale.

Though season 4 was packed full with incredible, jaw-dropping moments, the Metallica sequence is considered by viewers to be one of the most memorable moments in all of Stranger Things history. Between the effects, the power of the music, and Quinn’s proficiency with an electric guitar, the scene is sure to stick out in the minds of Eddie fans for years to come. Quinn himself considers the Metallica sequence to be one of the coolest things he’s ever done and will ever do, and Stranger Things fans around the world seem to be in complete agreement.
