Stranger Things Actor Hopes His Character's Name Is Cleared In Season 5

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Stranger Things season 4, volume 2!

Eddie Munson is branded as a villain by the people of Hawkins in Stranger Things season 4, but actor Joseph Quinn is hopeful that the truth about his character will come to light in season 5. The most-watched season of Netflix’s Stranger Things debuted across two parts in May and July, bringing several new characters to the screen. Audiences were introduced to Chrissy (Grace Van Dien), Argyle (Eduardo Franco), and Eddie Munson as they all became wrapped up in the supernatural occurrences of Hawkins.

Like many other Stranger Things characters, Eddie is a big fan of D&D and plays with Hawkins High School’s Hellfire Club as the DM. His eccentric and bold personality helped earn Eddie his fan-favorite status, but his charming misfit demeanor has only caused him problems amongst his peers. Eddie is only further ostracized following the supernatural deaths of Chrissy, Fred (Logan Riley Bruner), and Patrick (Myles Truitt), dubbed the Munson murders by the people of Hawkins. Eddie is blamed for their deaths and targeted by the townsfolk. After witnessing Chrissy’s vicious murder, Eddie seems to believe he is cowardly for running away, which fuels his later decision to stay in the Upside Down in order to protect his friends and the town.

Following the premiere of Stranger Things season 4, part 2, Quinn discusses Eddie’s devastating end with Screen Rant. While Eddie is a hero, the people of Hawkins are ignorant of the Upside Down and Eddie’s sacrifice, so they still believe Eddie to be responsible for the recent string of murders. When asked if he believes the town will ever see Eddie as a hero, Quinn looks towards Stranger Things season 5. Read Quinn’s full quote below:

That’s kind of the kick, isn’t it? It was just rough that he dies, and people don’t realize what a hero he is. But hopefully, he’ll have his name cleared in season 5. Maybe, we’ll see.

While his death was just one of many this season, fans are distraught over Eddie’s death. Some Stranger Things audiences are even wishing to somehow see more from the metalhead, and they aren’t the only ones. Both Quinn and Joe Keery (who plays fellow fan favorite Steve Harrington) have been thinking up potential ways for Eddie to make a comeback in Stranger Things season 5. Given their strong bond throughout season 4, the actors suggested that Eddie could return as a figment of Dustin’s (Gaten Matarazzo) imagination.

Only those who know about the Upside Down were privy to the details of Eddie’s harrowing death. However, Dustin tried to give Eddie’s Uncle Wayne (Joel Stoffer) some peace of mind by assuring him that Eddie is a hero, even if no one else knows it. Unsurprisingly, Stranger Things is confirmed for season 5, and the season 4 finale undoubtedly spells disaster for the upcoming episodes. However, as Vecna further breaches the real Hawkins, the townspeople might start to see more secrets from the Upside Down, hopefully allowing for the truth about Eddie to come out.
