Liv Morgan vs Ronda Rousey Reportedly Set For SummerSlam

Liv Morgan shocked the WWE universe by cashing in her Money In The Bank briefcase on Ronda Rousey, and now it sounds like those two will square off in a bout at SummerSlam. During the first match of the Money In The Bank premium live event, Morgan climbed the ladder and grabbed the brass ring that is the briefcase. She teased hanging onto it until WrestleMania during a backstage segment later, but that was not the case.

Rousey defeated Natalya in a tough match later on in the evening, and while she was celebrating her hard-fought victory and leaning on the ropes, Morgan’s music hit. Fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena erupted as the New Jersey native sprinted to the ring to cash in. The Baddest Woman On The Planet put up a fight, but Morgan was able to secure a win via the most dangerous move in all of sports entertainment; the rollup.

Fans may have been wondering how long WWE would let Morgan hang onto the title. It’d been five years since two non-four horsewomen were involved in the transfer of a women’s championship, after all. Based on a report by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the idea is for Rousey and Morgan to have a proper match at SummerSlam. Right now the plan is Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam, which kind of surprises me in a lot of ways.” Meltzer went on to explain why. “They didn’t leave with any heat. I mean, Ronda just hugged her, walked out of the ring, let her have her moment. It is interesting, though, because I think almost everybody figured it would be Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam and it’s not.”

No fan of WWE would be even remotely surprised if Flair somehow ended up getting shoehorned into this angle. SummerSlam isn’t until July 30. It only takes WWE 30 seconds to cram Flair into title matches, and audiences have seen that done in the past. For the time being, though, it sounds like SmackDown might be considering doing the unthinkable: giving fans a fresh feud over the women’s title. This also gives the blue brand a lot of depth in terms of storytelling for that division.

It seems like Asuka and Becky Lynch are bound for another big blowoff match—possibly at SummerSlam as well. SmackDown will also have Morgan vs Rousey, Lacey Evans looming in the background, and Raquel Rodriguez a rising star with returns for Flair and Bayley happening sooner rather than later. That is some high-end women’s talent that is accumulating on Friday nights and might make the blue brand the go-to show for wrestling fans who want to see females placed in prominent positions on the card. WWE SummerSlam is set to take place on July 30, live from the Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
