Stranger Things Star's Hilarious Reaction To Learning [SPOILER]'s Fate

Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for Stranger Things season 4.

Stranger Things season 4 saw the end of a number of major characters and one star is recalling their hilarious reaction to learning their fate. Millie Bobby Brown returned to lead the cast of the Netflix show alongside fellow series vets Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Matthew Modine and Brett Gelman. Stranger Things season 4 also introduced series newcomers Jamie Campbell Bower as Vecna/One/Henry Creel, Joseph Quinn as Eddie Munson and Eduardo Franco as Argyle.

Stranger Things season 4 picked up eight months after the events of season 3 as the Byers and Eleven adjust to living in California, while those still in Hawkins deal with the rising threat of Vecna, who is killing random teenagers around the town. Eleven finds herself forced to work with Dr. Brenner and Dr. Owens to recover her powers in order to combat Vecna, who seemingly has ties to both the Upside Down and Eleven’s past. Stranger Things season 4 has scored largely positive reviews from critics and audiences for its darker tone and performances of its cast, but one star is recalling how they learned they wouldn’t make it past the explosive finale.

While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant to discuss the final two episodes, Joseph Quinn looked back on his hilarious reaction to learning of Eddie’s fate in Stranger Things season 4. The actor recalled feeling surprised by the choice to kill Eddie off in the season finale, but praised the Duffer brothers for how it came together. See what Quinn said below:

“Oh, I don’t know, I’ve been texting the Duffers a little bit and they’ve been kind of saying that they’ve been bracing themselves slightly. But yeah, we’ll see what happens. There’s nothing we can do about it! [Laughs] I just remember kind of thinking, “What the f–k, really?” I don’t know where they come up with this stuff, truly. I thought it was so inventive and ingenious and brave. Then I quickly ran and bought the guitar, that kind of was the order of proceedings.”

Following the premiere of Stranger Things season 4 volume 1, fans of the show were left concerned regarding Eddie’s fate going into the final two episodes, having fallen in love with Quinn’s performance as the Hellfire Club leader. With the series newcomer being set up as the unintentional scapegoat for Vecna’s murders around town, many took to theorizing he wouldn’t find a safe place in the real world or the Upside Down, making him seem like a lamb being left to the slaughter. Quinn himself had teased the possibility of his own return for Stranger Things season 5, leaving many hopeful for their theories to be proven false and he would survive his battle with Vecna.

Those hopes were quickly dashed with the premiere of Stranger Things season 4 volume 2, in which Eddie elected to stay behind in the Upside Down and try and buy Dustin time to escape back to the real world from the demobats, only for the latter to return and hold his friend in his final moments as he discussed his surprise at not running away from the threat. While audiences may have been heartbroken by Eddie’s death, it proved to still be a powerful moment. But with Quinn teasing his own idea for how to return in Stranger Things season 5, which is eyeing a 2023 filming start, some are hopeful Eddie will make some kind of return for the final season.
