The CW Fall 2022 Premiere Dates Revealed For 10 Shows

The CW has announced its fall 2022 premiere dates for ten shows, including fan-favorites like Stargirl, Walker, and newcomers like The Winchesters. 2022 has been, by far, the most interesting year for The CW since it launched in 2006 when The WB and UPN did its merger. In previous years, The CW has been infamous for being the network to renew almost all of their shows while doing very few cancelations. Typically, around late January/early February of every year, The CW would hand out early renewals, allowing the showrunners and writers to plan their next seasons.

However, 2022 was a different story as it became a shake-up to the network’s status quo. In a surprise move, it was revealed in January 2022 that WarnerMedia and Paramount, the co-owners of The CW, are looking to sell the network. This started many domino effects, delaying The CW’s renewal and cancellation process. In March, The CW began canceling shows like Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman, which was a huge shock for the Arrowverse franchise, given its massive popularity. While The CW has renewed multiple shows for the 2022-2023 TV season, it’s not as many as in previous years.

As the current TV season is over, The CW has officially set its premiere dates for the fall season. While the Arrowverse is in a weird flux, the slate will have DC TV content; Stargirl season 3 will be arriving in late August. Other returning favorites include Kung Fu season 3, Walker season 3, All American season 5, and season 2 of its spinoff series, All American: Homecoming. The fall slate also includes the arrival of new properties, including the Supernatural and Walker prequel shows, The Winchesters and Walker: Independence, respectively. Shows not on the fall slate that will be saved for midseason 2023 are The Flash season 9, Superman & Lois season 3, and Nancy Drew season 4. Another major CW show premiere in 2023 is Riverdale season 7, the show’s final one for the Archie Comics drama. While it hasn’t been decided yet, The Flash season 9 is the returning series whose fate will be decided in the future whether or not the Arrowverse drama will be back for season 10.

Even though it’s not done yet, Nexstar is reportedly finalizing a deal to acquire at least 75% ownership of The CW. In comparison, WarnerMedia and Paramount would retain a 25% minority stake in it. Should the acquisition go through, it remains unclear which of the fall shows would be back for the 2023-2024 TV season. That is also relevant for the midseason shows, as Nexstar owning The CW could mean sudden ends for any of those shows as well, except for Riverdale. It will also be intriguing to see how 2023 plays out for the network now that the Warner Bros. Discovery merger has fully completed, which will likely mean more changes for The CW.
