Tom Hanks Reacts to Disney’s Decision Not to Cast Tim Allen in ‘Lightyear’
Tom Hanks is weighing in on Disney’s decision not to cast Tim Allen in Lightyear.
While the 69-year-old actor voiced the iconic character in each of the Toy Story movies, he was not involved with the recently released spinoff. Both fans and fellow actors have voiced their frustrations with the studio’s choice not to have him reprise the role.
Tom, who voiced Woody in the films alongside Tim, recently shared his thoughts on the controversy during an episode of CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast.

The Oscar-winning actor was asked whether it was strange to see his new film, Elvis, playing alongside the Buzz Lightyear movie.
“How about that?” he replied. “I wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen, and they didn’t let Tim Allen do it. I don’t understand that.”
Tom went on to say that ultimately he was just excited to see people going to the movies again after the pandemic.
“Just as long as people come back to the motion picture theater,” he said. “I want to go back in the theater with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common. That’s what I want to do and going to see a movie with them, I’m looking forward to that.”
Tim also recently addressed the situation surrounding Chris’ casting and explained why he had stayed quiet about the movie.
