National Treasure Show Title Revealed & It Perfectly Fits The Franchise

The upcoming Disney+ National Treasure television series officially has its title. The previously untitled soft reboot project will act as an expansion of the hit film franchise that launched with the Nicolas Cage lead original in 2004. Both installments in the franchise went on to be financial successes for Disney, as the first movie grossed over $347 million with a $100 million budget, while its sequel grossed over $459 million with its $130 million budget. In 2008, developments started on a third National Treasure film that is still in development to this day over a decade later, as Cage believes that the project has since been put on the back-burner while Disney focuses on the upcoming National Treasure television series.

The National Treasure television series will set its focus on a fresh face with Jess, a young girl who surprisingly discovers her family’s shocking secret history. Jess, who works for the FBI where she showcases her puzzle-solving abilities in the Cryptoanalysis Division, embarks on her own history-packed adventure as she rushes to expose the truth about the mysterious past, all while attempting to save a previously lost North American artifact.

It has now been announced that the upcoming Disney+ National Treasure series will officially be titled, National Treasure: Edge of History, via Disney’s National Treasure Series on Twitter. Besides the title, Disney+ also revealed the series official logo which seems to be as on point with the original franchise as the series title. Check out the logo below:

The combination of the new logo and title hints at a pulpy, globe-trotting adventure befitting of the franchise’s established tone. While more specific story details remain to be seen, calling it Edge of History suggests it will have a suitably grand scope that harkens back to what made the movies successful. Even though the series sports a different lead and predominately has a new cast, it’s encouraging to see Disney stick to the familiar formula – at least when it comes to titles and logo design. With the news Justin Bartha is reprising his role of Riley Poole, the hope is Edge of History won’t stray far from what made the movies memorable and be a worthy successor.

This reveal kicks off the beginning of the National Treasure: Edge of History marketing campaign. The show is getting a panel at San Diego Comic-Con later this month, where Disney will most likely reveal additional details (and perhaps screen early footage). Unveiling the logo and title now allows Disney to start building up hype for the show over the next couple of weeks. It will be interesting to see what other reveals the studio has in store. A National Treasure 3 starring Cage hasn’t been confirmed yet, but perhaps Cage will have a surprise role in National Treasure: Edge of History.
