Here’s Everything We Know About ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!’ So Far

Fans of “Jeopardy!” can look forward to a lot more coming in the near future!

Although season 38 is scheduled to end on July 29, there will be a double dose of “Jeopardy!” coming this fall for fans to enjoy when “Celebrity Jeopardy!” premieres on September 25. Season 39 of “Jeopardy!” will return earlier in the month: on September 12.

There have been no hosting announcements yet, so fans don’t know if “Jeopardy!” Greatest of All Time tournament winner Ken Jennings or “The Big Bang Theory” alum Mayim Bialik will be announced as the permanent host. With so much “Jeopardy!” planned, it’s been rumored that Sony will keep Ken for regular “Jeopardy!” gameplay and ask Mayim to fill in on special tournaments when she’s not busy filming her Fox sitcom “Call Me Kat.”

Of course, that’s just all speculation for now. Let’s take a look at what we do know about “Celebrity Jeopardy!” so far!

New episodes of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” will air on primetime. Starting September 25, new episodes will be available each Sunday night at 8 PM ET on ABC. It will most likely be available for streaming on-demand the following day, although this has not been confirmed in any official announcements just yet.

Just like other celebrity game shows, like “Wheel of Fortune” or “Family Feud,” the show will feature celebrities competing to win money for charity. According to an ABC press release, “Celebrity Jeopardy!” and “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” will air back-to-back on Sunday nights. The press release also shows that it will be a full hour of “Jeopardy!,” instead of just the usual half-hour episodes.

Fledgling executive producer Michael Davies will serve as executive producer on this new “Jeopardy!” spin-off as well. The press release states:

“‘Celebrity Jeopardy!,’ produced by Sony Pictures Television, is an all-new game show premiering this fall. This new series welcomes celebrity contestants to compete for a chance to win money for a charity of their choice.”

However, this is not the first time that celebrities have competed in special “Jeopardy!” tournaments.

This Isn’t The First Time Celebrities Have Demonstrated Their Trivia Knowledge!

As a “Jeopardy!” fan website reports, the first spin-off of the show featuring celebrity talent first aired on October 16, 1992. Hosted by late “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek, the show was broadcast annually as a weeklong event.

Over 200 celebrities were given a chance to compete against one another. One notable name is “Reading Rainbow” host LeVar Burton, who later described himself as “wrecked” when he wasn’t picked to be Alex Trebek’s successor in an interview earlier this year.

Other notable names include CNN’s Anderson Cooper (who also got a guest slot to try his hand at hosting), actor Ashton Kushton, “Deal or No Deal” host Wayne Brady, actress Jodie Foster, author Stephen King, actor Neil Patrick Harris, singer Naomi Judd, actress Kirsten Dunst, and many more! The final celebrity “Jeopardy!” week was held in May 2015, so there are plenty of new celebrities that have popped up during that time to demonstrate their trivia knowledge.

So far, it has not been announced which celebrities will be taking part in the new spin-off series, but it is likely that more information about the contestants will be revealed as we get closer to the fall premiere.

As previously stated, there has been no hosting announcement made for the spin-off show just yet. At first, plenty of fans speculated that Mayim Bialik would be tapped to host, considering she hosted the Professor’s Tournament last fall and the primetime National College Championship, which premiered earlier in the spring.

That being said, it’s possible that producers will hire a completely new face to host “Celebrity Jeopardy!”. Back in June, executive producer Michael Davies hinted at the possibility of more spin-offs and mentioned that they’ll need “multiple hosts to represent the entire audience.”

Fans can read more about what Davies had to say about the upcoming hosting announcement here.
