Predator Prequel Prey Will Premiere At SDCC 2022

Prey, the upcoming prequel to the long-running Predator franchise, will make its premiere at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Set 300 years in the past, the new sci-fi action film focuses on a warrior of the Comanche Nation named Naru (Amber Midthunder), who must utilize all of her skills to protect her people from an otherworldly danger. Beginning in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first confrontation with the now-iconic alien race, the Predator franchise has since expanded to include three notably less successful sequels and a further two cross-over films with the Alien franchise, Alien vs. Predator and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem.

Now, Collider reports that Prey will make its official debut during San Diego Comic-Con 2022. The scheduled premiere on July 21 comes just two weeks before the film’s arrival on Hulu and will be hosted as part of a collaboration between the streamer and Collider. Attendees of the screening will also enjoy a Q&A session with director Dan Trachtenberg, producer Jhane Myers, and stars including Midthunder.

After the disappointing reception of Shane Black’s 2018 Predator revival film, many are cautiously holding out hope that Prey could reinvigorate the franchise. Focusing on a previously unexplored era with diverse new characters, Trachtenberg has already hinted at his own optimism for the franchise’s future, teasing even more exciting ideas. Penned by Patrick Aison, the upcoming prequel also stars the likes of Dakota Beavers, Dane DiLiegro, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush, and Julian Black Antelope. Following its debut on July 21, Prey will be available to stream on August 5.
