Oprah Winfrey is paying tribute to her late father, Vernon Winfrey.
The 68-year-old took to Instagram to confirm that her dad had passed away on Friday (July 8) at 88 years old, sharing a touching post in his honor.

“Less than a week ago we honored my father, Vernon Winfrey, in his own backyard,” she wrote alongside a video of her father. “My friend and gospel singer Wintley Phipps saluted him with song. He FELT the love and reveled in it until he could no longer speak.”
“Yesterday with family surrounding his bedside I had the sacred honor of witnessing the man responsible for my life, take his last breath,” Oprah continued. “We could feel Peace enter the room at his passing. That Peace still abides. All is well.”
She concluded the post by thanking her fans and followers for their support.
According to a piece by the Washington Post, Vernon held several roles in the East Nashville community, where he lived after being in the U.S. Army. He was an elected Nashville city councilman, a deacon at his church and the owner of a small grocery store, as well as a barber at his own barbershop.
Our thoughts are with Vernon’s loved ones during this difficult time.
