Chris Pratt Reveals The Pitch Video That Got The Terminal List Made

Chris Pratt has shared his original pitch video that helped get The Terminal List made. Pratt plays former Navy SEAL James Reece in Prime Video’s The Terminal List, a series adaptation of the novel of the same name by author Jack Carr. Pratt is joined by Taylor Kitsch, Constance Wu, Jeanne Tripplehorn, LaMonica Garrett, and Riley Keough in the 8-episode series, which adapts the first book in Carr’s ongoing series featuring Reece.

The Terminal List made a splash as it debuted as the #1 show on Prime Video, beating the streamer’s other heavy hitter, The Boys. Fan response has been vastly different than the critical response to the show, with many critics speaking poorly of the series. Carr has since responded to the negative critical response, championing the fan ratings over the critics, saying that they “didn’t make [The Terminal List] for the critics.”

In a new Instagram post, Pratt shares his original pitch video from 2020 for The Terminal List. In it, he gives his reasoning for wanting to make the project a TV series instead of a movie while showing excitement for the opportunity to stretch as an actor and a producer. Pratt explains how The Terminal List came to him, which was via his close friend and former Navy SEAL Jared Shaw (who also appears in The Terminal List), who introduced him to Carr. From there, Pratt sought out Antoine Fuqua to direct and serve as EP on the series, saying that their goal was to remain “true and authentic” to the Navy SEAL community with the show. Pratt has started to form a mutually beneficial relationship with Prime Video, having debuted director Chris McKay’s The Tomorrow War on the streaming service with great success in 2021 and now The Terminal List in 2022. But the actor still has some theatrical work coming up, as he’ll once again appear as Star-Lord in director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special for Disney+. Pratt is also set to re-team with The Russo Bros for the Netflix original film The Electric State with Millie Bobby Brown and is also voicing both Garfield and Super Mario in new animated film adaptations.

It’s interesting that Pratt pursued The Terminal List as a series in lieu of a film, but it appears to have worked out in his favor. The role of James Reece is a big change of pace for the actor, turning him from a goofy, arrogant hero to a ruthless action star. While some continue to politicize the show, fan support is huge, and it could make for a long-running role for Pratt if Prime Video continues adapting Carr’s novels beyond The Terminal List. There’s plenty of material to mine (there are 5 James Reece books in total so far) and Pratt has shown himself to be deeply passionate about the part, so the ball is in Amazon’s court to keep the show on the road and perhaps earn another win for the Pratt/Prime Video partnership next summer.
