The episode, which is titled “Night of the Comet” and set to air on July 31, was co-written by the show’s creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. According to the synopsis, Archie and his friends will soon be forced to face off against the “greatest threat” that Riverdale has ever seen. Check out the full synopsis below:

Anyone who has watched Riverdale knows that the seemingly idyllic town has been under major threat before. As the show’s twists and turns deepened over the past five seasons, the characters have had to face off against everything from a widespread drug problem to serial killers and a killer cult. These heightened stakes will likely be coming from the supernatural threat posed by new villain Percival Pickens, and given the episode title’s reference to the post-apocalyptic 1984 film Night of the Comet, things could start to look very bad for the town.
