Thor: Love & Thunder’s Valkyrie Poses With Stunt Double in BTS Photos

Thor: Love and Thunder star Tessa Thompson poses with her stunt double in new behind-the-scenes photos from the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Chris Hemsworth’s titular God of Thunder is on a journey to find inner peace, but his quest is interrupted by a galactic killer named Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who is driven by bringing about the extinction of the gods after a personal betrayal and the death of his daughter. Thor calls on the help of Thompson’s King Valkyrie, Korg (Taika Waititi), and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) — now known as the Mighty Thor — to help him put an end to Gorr.
First introduced in Thor: Ragnarok, Thompson’s Valkyrie is one of the remaining warrior goddesses of Asgard. The rest were killed fighting Hela, the Asgardian Goddess of Death (played by Cate Blanchett in Ragnarok), long ago. Valkyrie is later appointed to the position of King of New Asgard by Thor at the end of Avengers: Endgame. However, Love and Thunder finds Thompson’s MCU hero struggling with her new admin-based role as the leader of her city. She is pining for her days as a warrior when Thor arrives back in New Asgard during Gorr’s attack on the city and its children, and joins him in his quest to find the villain and rescue them.
Per Thor: Love and Thunder News on Twitter, new behind-the-scenes photos from the Thor: Love and Thunder set show Thompson with her stunt double, Tara Macken. The pair are both wearing Valkyrie costumes in the three images, with one photo featuring Thompson and Macken in serious, warrior-like poses. Another is of the actor and double posing while holding dumbbells and showing off their strength. The third is a mirror selfie featuring Thompson and Macken smiling and holding up peace signs. Not only do these behind-the-scenes Love and Thunder images show off just how perfect a double of Thompson Macken is, but they also highlight what looks to be a strong friendship between the pair off-screen. The MCU actor and her stunt double clearly enjoy having fun together between takes, and the image including dumbbells indicates that they may have even trained together for their dual role as Valkyrie, in order to ensure their physical appearances stayed the same across both of their action sequences. Ultimately, Valkyrie gets her fair share of action in Love and Thunder, particularly during a memorable fight against Gorr himself on his shadow planet hideout.
While Valkyrie’s future in the MCU remains somewhat uncertain at the end of Love and Thunder, there is a possibility that there’s more to the character’s story in the future. Whether her journey will continue via a solo Valkyrie film, a spinoff Disney+ series, or again as a supporting character in another Thor or other MCU movie remains to be seen. If Valkyrie does return to the MCU after Thor: Love and Thunder, no doubt Macken will be back to lend her skills to bringing the character’s most heroic moments to life.
