The Marvels director Nia DaCosta directed the Ms. Marvel episode 6 post-credits scene. The latest series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ms. Marvel centers on Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a 16-year-old, Muslim, Pakistani-American high school student in Jersey City, who is a big fan of the Avengers, particularly of Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers (Brie Larson). Upon gaining the ability to create hard light constructs from a magical bangle, the series follows the journey that unravels before her as learns more about her powers and her family’s history.

Concluding last week with Ms. Marvel episode 6, the show ended with Khan officially suiting up in the MCU and finding out that her powers exist by virtue of a genetic mutation she has that the rest of her family lacks. This ending offered big hints about the franchise’s future, constituting the introduction of mutants to the MCU, while the Ms. Marvel finale post-credits scene teases the character’s role in the upcoming movie The Marvels. In the short scene, Kamala switches places with a confused Carol Danvers after her Noor-linked bangle emits a strange glow.

Now, in an interview with TheWrap, regular Ms. Marvel directors Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi reveal that The Marvels director DaCosta took over for the show’s post-credits scene. Since the order came from Marvel Studios brass, Fallah says, they weren’t even aware the scene existed until post-production. Seeing the reveal so soon after the mutant scene was mindblowing for the filmmaking pair. Check out Fallah’s full quote below:

Well, we didn’t shoot that scene. Nia DaCosta was doing The Marvels. She was instructed to shoot that scene, but she didn’t know that it would be a post-credits scene of our show. And we didn’t know that it existed until we were doing the color grading, and then all of a sudden, after the credits, you see that scene. It’s like, “Ah!” After the scene with the X-Men thing, and then this, it was like, boom, boom – double exploding heads.

After spending six episodes uncovering the origin story of Ms. Marvel, the scene feels like an appropriate ending to the series, serving as a great lead into the upcoming The Marvels film. With DaCosta directing The Marvels, she makes for the perfect choice for the scene’s director. Going beyond the Captain Marvel cameo and the unexpected pairing established between Danvers and Khan, the scene being directed by DaCosta further connects the two projects.

In addition to Vellani’s Kamala Khan and Larson’s Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris will also be starring in the upcoming The Marvels, reprising her role as Monica Rambeau. Rambeau’s last appearance in the MCU was in the first Disney+ MCU series, WandaVision, where she was sent to investigate Westview. After she pushed her way through the Hex, she gained her own superpowers: the ability to detect electromagnetic radiation, and energy absorption. The series finale saw Rambeau being visited by a disguised Skrull, who asks her to meet with her mother’s old friend in space. With The Marvels centering on Khan, Danvers, and Rambeau, it will be interesting to see how DaCosta chooses to intersect the three and fit them into Danvers’ storyline.
