Thor: Love & Thunder’s Hercules Actor Breaks Silence On Shock MCU Casting

Warning: Includes Thor: Love & Thunder Spoilers!

Brett Goldstein speaks up for the first time since debuting as Hercules in Thor: Love and Thunder regarding his future in the MCU. Marvel Studios’ latest big screen offering brings back the tandem of Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi as the God of Thunder continues his personal journey in the franchise. Thor: Love and Thunder sees the Avenger fighting Gorr the God Butcher, and thanks to an assist from Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor, Christian Bale’s villain is successfully defeated.

While Thor: Love and Thunder ended with Thor victorious, there’s another threat looming in the background for him with the introduction of Hercules. After the God of Thunder, Mighty Thor, Valkyrie, and Korg’s disastrous trip to Omnipotence City, where they met Russell Crowe’s Zeus, the team rushed their way out with the god’s thunderbolt weapon. In the Thor: Love and Thunder‘s after-credits scene, a disgruntled Zeus sends Hercules after Thor, marking Goldstein’s MCU debut.

In a new interview with Variety, Goldstein talks about his latest gig as Marvel Studios’ Hercules for the first time. He claims, however, that beyond the work that he did on Thor: Love and Thunder, he doesn’t know what the future holds for him in the MCU. Check out Goldstein’s full quote below:

I truly, honestly — this isn’t me lying or being coy — I know nothing. All I know is what I did that day and that’s it. That could be it. It was a fun three seconds.

Best known for his role as the fan-favorite Roy Kent in Ted Lasso, casting Goldstein as Hercules was Kevin Feige’s idea. There had been rumors that the MCU was looking to debut the character for a while, but there were other actors supposedly linked to the role. The fact that Feige himself chose Goldstein should be an indication that there are big things coming for the character. While he claims he doesn’t know what Hercules’ MCU future is, which could very well be the case since Marvel Studios is very secretive about their upcoming endeavors, expect him to be a primary player in the MCU moving forward. The Thor: Love and Thunder post-credits scene alone sets up his role in the inevitable Thor 5 movie.

The question now is whether Goldstein’s Hercules will be in other MCU projects besides the God of Thunder’s next solo adventure. At this point, the Thor 5 release date may still be a ways away, because Waititi is busy with other endeavors, not to mention the sheer number of Marvel Studios’ projects already in the pipeline. That being said, it’s highly unlikely that the franchise will wait that long bring Hercules back after his debut in Thor: Love and Thunder.
