A new system update has been released for the PlayStation 5 and should already be available to download for console users; however, compared to the previous update for the console, this new one is underwhelming. Sony clearly has intentions of fixing user issues with its new console, though it may not be in a rush to do so.
Since its release in November 2020, Sony has continued to improve the PlayStation 5 system and earlier this month released an update that added many user-requested features such as the ability to move games on to external hard drives. Despite this, users still have issues with the console they would like to see fixed and features they would like to see added, so, with every new system update, there is an expectation of improvement.Start now
Unfortunately, according to the official PlayStation website, the system software update simply improves the PlayStation 5's performance. While this may disappoint users still waiting for missing features to be added to the system, it is important to remember that system updates take time. After the previous update added many features, it could be a while until we see another one similar in size and scope. The PlayStation 5 is still very young as a console, and Sony will likely add most of the requested features in future updates.
This generation, Sony seems to be focusing on updating the DualSense controller as much as the PlayStation 5 itself. This may also be another reason for Sony taking its time to implement the features users are requesting, as they are focusing on improving both system and controller over time.
The DualSense controller has received a lot of praise from critics and consumers alike for its unique features and the way it is incorporated into games such as Astro's Playroom. So it makes sense that Sony is continuing to support the controller and update it for developers to use its features in their games.
While the lack of excitement in this new system update may disappoint some PlayStation fans, there is still something to be excited about. Yesterday, Sony announced a new State of Play presentation airing on April 29th, 2021. Fans are already speculating on what to expect from the presentation, with Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart expected to be the focus due to its approaching release.
The last State of Play aired in February 2021, and while it focused more on indie games, there were still some surprises, like the announcement of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. So, for those PlayStation fans wanting something new to be excited about, this State of Play may be just the thing.
