Pokemon Unite finally has a release window, and it is soon. The Pokemon Company’s team-based, five vs. five strategy game that has been co-developed with Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group is first coming to Nintendo Switch in July 2021. This is going to be followed by a release on mobile devices later in September this year. The game should come to iOS and Android both in September, but this has not been confirmed yet.

Eventually, by September when the game is on both platforms and you cannot decide which one to pick, don’t worry. Pokemon Unite will support cross-play between Nintendo’s console and mobile devices. The Pokemon Company also announced that the game will support cross-progression which can be enabled by signing in with your Pokemon Trainer Club account or your Nintendo Account on the devices you want to play on.

When you start playing Pokemon Unite it is going to be free with optional in-game purchases available, like the in-game currency called Aeos gems. You will get Aeos coins and tickets from playing the game and you can use those to unlock cosmetics and other items. There are also season battle passes that you can level up over time to earn in-game rewards. You can also use the paid Aeos gems to pay for rewards in the battle pass if you don’t want to spend too much time on the longer process of earning those rewards by actually playing.

When Pokemon Unite was announced last year, The Verge had pointed out that a Pokemon Game that involves strategy is a little strange and it is also launching years after MOBAs (multiplayer online battle arena) like Dota 2 and League of Legends that are already popular. However, Pokemon Unite comes with a bunch of familiar characters and that might be enough to get some Pokemon fans on board for a new type of game.

On the other end of the more mundane Pokemon universe, the Summer Solstice event is live on Pokemon Go and you have a chance to win a shiny Regigigas from five-star raids or catch a shiny Snorunt or Yanma depending on which hemisphere you are in.
