Sonic 2 Honest Trailer Pokes Fun At Franchise's Weird Sequel Movie

The new Honest Trailer pokes fun at Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for showing just how weird the franchise can get. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the sequel to 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog, with both films based on Sega’s iconic video game franchise featuring the blue speedster. Director Jeff Fowler returned to helm the sequel, which expands on the characters from the first film while also adding new characters from the games, like Tails and Knuckles. Ben Schwartz voices Sonic alongside a stellar cast, including Jim Carrey, Idris Elba, Tika Sumpter, James Marsden, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey.

Screen Junkies shared the new honest trailer on YouTube, which takes aim at some of the absurd elements on display in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. While the trailer admits the first Sonic film was “surprisingly not terrible,” with the sequel getting the same description, the narrator points to the overabundance of animal characters, the egg-shaped mech, and the Chaos Emerald’s power to make dreams come true as a way to show “just how weird this franchise gets.” As the trailer lampoons even the most obscure references, nothing seems off-limits as Sonic 2 finds itself labeled with a reference to the Speed sequel, being dubbed “Sonic 2: Blues Control.” Check out the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Honest Trailer below:

Despite the jesting throughout the Honest Trailer, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was well received by audiences. The sequel is also the highest-grossing video game movie ever made, with over $385 million worldwide. The franchise is set to expand with a show based around Knuckles and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 already greenlit. With the success of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the franchise shows no signs of stopping, and the next installment is likely to be just as bizarre, action-packed and Easter egg-stuffed as its predeccesor.
