iPhone 7 Could Have 4 Speakers, Larger Camera

We already know Apple's next iPhone could be waterproof, have an AMOLED display, and ditch its headphone jack. Now photos have surfaced that indicate it could look substantially different from the iPhone 6s.

Images of a prototype with four speakers, a larger flash, and a higher-aperture camera surfaced yesterday, supposedly pulled from a promo video for an Italian case manufacturer, according to French blog NowhereElse.

Rumors have been all over the map when it comes to the next iPhone's external appearance. If the images are genuine, they would mean that Apple is planning a departure from the form factor of the iPhone 6s, putting it in line with a prediction from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who wrote that the new model would be a "completely new form factor design."

But other leaks have pointed to a near identical design to the iPhone 6s, according to 9to5Mac.

For those anxious about the potential loss of a headphone jack, yesterday's leak gives new cause for concern. The four speaker grilles are positioned in pairs along the top and bottom edges of the case. There's nothing else on the top edge, while the bottom edge has what appears to be a Lightning connector squeezed in between the two grilles.

It's a strange design, to be sure, especially since all previous iPhone models have included a single speaker. The iPad Pro ( at Amazon) hasfour speakers, making it twice as loud as the iPad Air 2, so such a design isn't new to Apple.

As for the larger camera and flash openings, Kuo previously predicted that Apple would give the next iPhone a dual-lens camera system. It's reportedly based on imaging technology Apple acquired last year with its $20 million purchase of Israeli firm LinX Imaging.
