LG Said to be Releasing Faster, Snapdragon 805 G3 in South Korea

News & Reviews News || Reviews News:

LG’s G3 is still making its way to store shelves throughout the West, but in South Korea it’s been enjoying some fairly notable success for a device that’s just launched at this point in the year. Still, that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning, and there’s been some interesting developments as of later including LG themselves filing trademarks for the G Prime, L Prime, F Prime and W Prime names. A faster, more powerful version of the G3 has been rumored for some time now and as I’ve been thinking, it looks like this variant is South Korea-bound.

A source from South Korea is claiming that a Snapdragon 805-powered G3 is to launch in Asia shortly, with faster LTE capabilities in tow. This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen such a move from a South Korean manufacturer, as Samsung released a variant of the Galaxy S4 with a Snapdragon 800 in South Korea to take better advantage of faster LTE networks. Now, LG could be doing the same thing, and it’s perhaps not the faster processor they’re after for this variant, but the more potentMDM9635 modem that will allow such a device to reach download speeds of around 220 mbps over LTE. That’s a theoretical max of course, but if there’s one thing South Korea knows how to do properly, it’s LTE. Is this likely to be an LG G3 Prime? Well, it’s possible, but we’re thinking LG will keep things simple with the naming for this one.

According to the source in question, the rest of this new variant of the G3 is to feature the same build and same display and the beast that LG unveiled not too long ago. The chances of such a device living South Korea – if it even launches there – are pretty slim, but we guess we’ll just have add this one to the pile of cool devices that we don’t get our hands on in the West. With faster LTE networks from the likes of Sprint and Verizon however, there is a slim chance we’ll be seeing variants like these to take better advantage of the extra speed, but we won’t be holding our breath.
